General Summary

This multi-function role, which is a combination of an Industrial / Manufacturing Engineer with a Production Engineer, will involve (but not limited to) planning and creating a systematic process for the manufacture of components based on customer requirements and standard times to ensure the most efficient method of manufacture.

To create processes for method and cost to manufacture and to ratify costs and methods when required. Providing support to the Operational team looking at new machinery, tooling, programs, more detailed SOP and routings, and help alleviate problems on the shop floor.

Looking at ways to improve current manufacturing methods and increase productivity and efficiency by driving continuous improvement through manufacture. CNC programming including creation of new programs, editing and updating current programs, supporting the CNC machines and operators along with Jigs and fixtures (New and modifications).


Principal Duties And Responsibilities (essential Functions)

  • Creation of new and modifying CNC programs using Fanuc / Mazak Program language.
  • Preparing/updating new/existing manufacturing documentation programs / tooling / setup details required for product manufacture.
  • Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods utilizing Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Creating and maintaining robust and lean manufacturing processes (CNC and manual) satisfying product and process quality, manufactured on time, ensuring customer satisfaction and heading to successful business results and performance.
  • Daily/weekly support for manufacturing processes and supporting activity, program creation, resolution of issues and concerns. Supporting other manufacturing disciplines.
  • Providing on-going support to Production Operators and processes to ensure economic manufacturing to the correct quality standard is achieved.
  • Work with suppliers in all matters relating to the manufacturing process.
  • Facilitate and/or participate in continuous improvement activities, Analyze production processes and utilize problem-solving methodology to identify areas for improvement.
  • To constantly seek new ways to improve production efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Creating process specifications and material purchase specifications.
  • Lead and own control of manufacture consumables including tooling, lubrication, etc.
  • Lead and own machine maintenance working with Operations and Planning keeping costs down and ensuring manufacture is not affected.
  • To aid when required in the production of Routings (processes) to cover all streams (Assembly, Machining, and Test) according to project and customer requirements including quality plans.
  • Discuss and create processes for rectification or additional work of assemblies and parts (including bought-in finished) due to production changes as and when required.
  • Maintain and update Routings, production Orders, and any other shop floor documents as required.
  • Implementing engineering changes to Routings as required.
  • Plan additional work Routing cards as requested.
  • Interpret Routing for Operators on the shop floor and management.
  • To work in accordance with the Departmental Interface Procedures in an efficient manner appropriate to the above statement.
  • Provide on-going support and training to anyone in relation to manufacture.
  • Be available for further training if required.
  • Work in other areas when required.
  • Work with managers to implement the company's policies and goals.
  • Ensure that health, safety, and environmental guidelines are followed.

Education, Skills And Experience

  • Time served Mechanical Fitter with at least 3 years relevant experience, preferably in a heavy manufacturing environment.
  • HNC/HND Mechanical/Production engineering and/or experienced Manufacture / Industrial engineer with extensive proven track record in a similar role that encompasses the above responsibilities.
  • Have an understanding and experience of lean manufacturing techniques and detailed knowledge of CNC and manual machining processes in Milling and turning.
  • Team Player with a high level of energy and commitment required for leading and implementing change.
  • Strong communication skills; both written and verbally.
  • Experience of SAP or other MRP system for producing Routings. Excel and Word would be beneficial.

You must have valid right to work in the UK and be able to obtain security clearance to apply for this role.
