Manufacturing Engineer | Abingdon | £45,000pa - £50,000pa plus benefits
Our client is a global manufacturing giant who has supplied the scientific research community for over 75 years. Their products are ground-breaking across lots of different areas of science, and as a business they continue to push the boundaries of what is possible. Due to growth, they are looking for a Manufacturing Engineer to join their manufacturing engineering team.
Role Overview
The Manufacturing Engineer will support a low-volume, high-technology product line. You will take ownership of manufacturing processes, documentation and equipment, lead improvement initiatives, and support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities. This is a varied role where you will drive positive change, lead small project teams, and implement modern manufacturing techniques to improve key performance measures including quality, on-time delivery, efficiency, and cost.
Key Responsibilities
- Working collaboratively across Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, NPI, and the Project Management Office, to problem solve and continuously improve
- Ensuring manufacturing processes and documentation are robust, effective, and fit for purpose
- Identifying and mitigating risks, delivering cost reduction opportunities, and maintaining the highest standards of quality and performance

About You
- Ideally hold an HNC, degree, or equivalent qualification in an engineering or scientific discipline, combined with relevant experience in an electromechanical manufacturing environment
- Experience within a low-volume, high-technology manufacturing setting would be advantageous
- Knowledge of cryogenics, superconducting magnets, or vacuum technology would be highly beneficial; however, training can be provided for the right candidate
Skills and Experience Required
- Experience applying tools and methodologies such as:
- PFMEA and DFMEA
- Risk assessment and risk management
- Design for Manufacture Assembly (DfMA)
- Lean manufacturing principles
- Problem Solving methodologies
- Strong process development, documentation, and process control skills are essential, along with the ability to support technicians through build and test activities
- Collaborative team player with excellent communication skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement
