Manufacturing Engineer Role – Derby Site (Nuclear Sector)
About the Role
Astute’s Nuclear Team is partnering with a leading nuclear engineering and manufacturing organisation to recruit a Manufacturing Engineer for its Derby site.
This strategically important role offers:
- Salary: £45,000-£55,000 per annum

Responsibilities and Duties
Reporting to the Manufacturing Manager, key responsibilities include:
- analysing existing manufacturing processes and developing improved methods to enhance efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness
- providing technical support to production teams, addressing manufacturing issues and resolving technical queries
- developing and implementing quality control procedures to align with customer requirements and industry standards
- designing, defining, and introducing new manufacturing tools, equipment, and production methods
- conducting feasibility studies and cost analyses for new manufacturing processes and improvement initiatives
- monitoring and analysing production data to identify opportunities for productivity and performance improvements
- supporting technical reviews of parts, including:
- non-conformance resolution
- closeout activities
- method of change confirmations
- ensuring compliance with industry regulations, quality standards, and nuclear safety requirements
- collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement initiatives

Requirements
Professional Qualifications
✅ Degree or equivalent in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline ✅ Minimum of three years’ experience as a Manufacturing Engineer, preferably in:
- the nuclear sector
- highly regulated manufacturing environments ✅ Strong understanding of nuclear safety regulations, quality standards, and compliance requirements ✅ Experience applying:
- Lean Manufacturing
- Six Sigma
- Other continuous improvement methodologies ✅ Demonstratable expertise in:
- designing, defining, and improving manufacturing processes, tools, and equipment ✅ Strong:
- project management skills
- analytical and problem-solving abilities ✅ SC clearance (or ability to obtain it) and sole British nationality required

- technical competence with a strong manufacturing engineering background
- proactive and driven by continuous improvement and operational excellence
- analytical mindset with excellent attention to detail
- effective communication, capable of engaging with:
- production teams
- stakeholders at all levels
- comfort working in a collaborative, client-site environment
- adaptability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced engineering setting

Salary and Benefits
- £45,000-£55,000 per annum
- Monday–Friday, on-site in Derby
