The Role
This advanced role focuses on CNC machining-oriented manufacturing engineering, enabling us to deliver exceptional value to our industrial clients. As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will:
Key Responsibilities:
Manufacturing Process Excellence
• Drive CNC machining workflows, tooling strategies, and digital methods to ensure robust, efficient processes aligned with customer and stakeholder needs. • Independently deliver complex CNC prove-out and first-off development, managing risks, expectations, and budgets to achieve high-quality outputs on time. • Support the CNC capability development roadmap, technology scanning, and team skills alignment under the Manufacturing Engineering Strategy.
Design for Manufacture & Inspection (DfM/DfI)
• Collaborate with design teams to optimise CNC manufacturability, fixture concepts, tolerancing, and machining strategies. • Provide technical insights into part feasibility, CNC-ready constraints, and cost-efficient manufacturing solutions.

Process Development & Validation
• Develop and validate CNC machining and broader manufacturing/inspection processes. • Work cross-functionally to stabilise processes for repeatability, accuracy, safety, and efficiency. • Author high-quality documentation, including:
- Machining methods & sequences
- Work instructions
- P-FMEAs
- PFMEAs, inspection/control plans
- Technical reports
- Process Flow Diagrams
Procurement & Risk Management:
• Coordinate procurement of CNC tooling, fixtures, materials, and gauges, ensuring resource availability for machining schedules. • Own and resolve manufacturing issues, particularly complex machining challenges, implementing sustainable solutions. • Champion continuous improvement of manufacturing processes.
Core Duties by Domain:
1. Communication & Collaboration
✔ Present complex CNC/manufacturing topics clearly to technical & non-technical stakeholders. ✔ Attend, lead, and contribute to project meetings, workshops, design reviews, and assurance activities. ✔ Act as a technical liaison between customers, suppliers, and internal teams.
2. Innovation & Adaptability
✔ Introduce best-in-class manufacturing practices into MTC operations. ✔ Enable innovative design realisation through manufacturing advice, process validation, and problem-solving.
3. Technical Expertise
• Deep CNC machining experience in low-volume, high-complexity, first-off environments. • Specialised knowledge in 5-axis machining of complex geometries and tight-tolerance parts. • Expertise machining exotic and challenging materials.
Machine Tool & Systems:
◦ Selection and integration of CNC machine tools (spindle specs, control systems, tool management, swarf/chip handling, coolant solutions, workholding). ◦ Coordination of installation and commissioning with ** vendors**.
CAD/CAM & Toolpath Strategies:
◦ Proficient in Siemens NX (preferred) or equivalent CAD/CAM software. ◦ No NX experience? Must be willing to learn with proven experience elsewhere. ◦ CGTech Vericut (or similar) for toolpath verification/simulation.
Cutting Science & Tooling:
◦ Advanced knowledge of tool selection, chip load formation, heat management, and vibration/chatter mitigation. ◦ Fluent in tool life modelling, dynamic toolpaths, and cooling strategies.

Fixturing & Work Holding:
◦ Rigid, repeatable fixture design principles. ◦ Experience creating custom solutions for complex part geometries.
Metrology & Verification:
◦ Gauge, Dimensional Tolerancing, GD&T knowledge and practical application. ◦ In-process measurement and verification techniques.
Process Development (Prove-Out to Production):
◦ Full-cycle process development—from material selection to first-article sign-off. ◦ Dátum strategy, in-process control plans, stabilisation.
Quality & Risk Management:
◦ Expertise in Dfx inputs, PFMEAs, and control plan creation. ◦ Experience in regulated environments requiring strict documentation & traceability. ◦ Cost estimating, technical risk management, and commercial input.
