Manufacturing Engineering Manager
Senior Manufacturing Engineer – Manufacturing Process Optimisation (m/w/d)
Great ideas come from different minds. That’s why we bring together engineers, scientists, analysts, and creatives from every background—and give them the trust, tools, and freedom to make a difference. What connects us is the mission: solving meaningful problems and building capability that protects what matters most.
Roke is a world-class technology and engineering consultancy. We deliver advanced research, development services, and products to high-profile customers, helping them solve complex challenges.
You will take on a leading role within the manufacturing team, driving new product introductions, ** Lean/Six Sigma continuous improvement**, and process efficiency. You will collaboratively work alongside cross-functional stakeholders across engineering, production, quality, supply chain, trade compliance and client support teams.
Primary Purpose
You will transform manufacturing operations into high-performing, scalable, and efficient processes—ensuring design for manufacturability (DFM) principles are embedded from product concept through to full-scale production.
Your Strategic Role:
- Lead New Product Introduction (NPI) for manufacturing, championing lean manufacturing and Six Sigma excellence to streamline processes, reduce waste, and enhance competitiveness.
- Drive Continuous Improvement (CI) by identifying and resolving operational challenges, prioritising high-impact projects, and measurement-enabled decision-making.
- Ensure BOM Excellence: uphold accuracy of Bill of Materials, propagate design intent to work instructions, testing procedures, and equipment maintenance.
- Deliver supply chain resilience and subcontractor improvement initiatives to mitigate delays and upgrade operational performance.
- Responsible for fault-finding, troubleshooting, and solving complex engineering challenges using Lean, Six-Sigma, PfMEA, and 8D methodologies.
- Responsible for independently leading and developing an engineering team while maintaining process safety, equipment standards, procedure documentation, and training requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Manufacturing Process Optimisation & Proactive Continuous Improvement
- Develop strategies to improve throughput, reduce costs, and reduce lead times in high-volume or low-volume mechanical/electromechanical product lines.
- Lead cross-functional change control, ensuring new designs or production information are compelling, safe, and efficiently traceable throughout the organisation.
- Coordinate work-in-progress tracking, inventory collection, stock take records, and document dissemination.
- Act as interface specialist to engineering design reviews to optimise manufacturability during design-to-manufacturing handover.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
