Manufacturing Engineering Manager
An opportunity for a Manufacturing Engineering Manager has become available with an established OEM in Coventry, on a permanent basis.
As the successful Manufacturing Engineering Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring engineering designs can be efficiently manufactured and assembled, implementing and ensuring correct procedures and tooling are in place for existing and new product introductions.
Working with a team of highly skilled engineering professionals, you will ensure DFM (Design for Manufacture) and DFA (Design for Assembly) as well as PFMEA (Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) techniques are applied. You will also work closely with the operations team and be responsible for:
- The design and layout of manufacturing areas
- Processing work instructions
- Supporting manufacturing in resolving assembly issues
Responsibilities
- Identify poka-yoke (mistake-proofing) final assembly methods to reduce potential assembly errors.
- Lead the engineering change process, ensuring all parts are correctly trailed, approved before introduction, and all production information is updated.
- Specify tooling and equipment requirements, including replacement of existing or new manufacturing equipment.
- Ensure all new assembly methods are reviewed, safety assessments completed, appropriate information maintained, and protective equipment available with correct instructions and training methods.
- Check that all products have complete work instructions, and work assignments are available to support product run rate, including any lifting equipment or care points.
- Continuously drive improvements and savings within manufacturing by identifying opportunities and setting challenging targets for each team member.
- Control and allocate resources based on priorities and project assignments.
- Review and assess Engineering Change Orders, focusing on:
- BOM (Bill of Materials) accuracy
- Impact on tooling
- Impact on work instructions
- Training requirements for shop-floor operatives
- Use appropriate tools to manage and solve problems, such as PFMEAs and 8D (8 Disciplines) processes.

Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in a Manufacturing Engineer/Senior Manufacturing Engineer role
- Proven experience in defining manufacturing processes and equipment
- Expertise in Line Balancing, Time Study Methods, and Takt Time
- Experience in assessing engineering solutions for manufacturability
- Ability to conduct risk assessments and PFMEAs
- Solid understanding of:
- Engineering organisations
- Support systems and processes
- Low/medium volume production and multi-product lines
- Exceptional problem-solving skills, capable of working independently or leading teams to resolve complex challenges
- Hands-on involvement in every step of the manufacturing process
