Our client is currently looking for a Manufacturing & Engineering Supervisor to join them on a permanent basis.

Location: LE12 (Barrow Upon Soar)

Purpose of the Role

Reporting to the Managing Director, this role supports the day-to-day operation and growth of the business. The successful candidate will provide engineering expertise, supervise workshop activities, coordinate production, manage customer and supplier relationships, and help drive operational efficiency and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Operations & Leadership

  • Support the Managing Director in the daily running of the business.
  • Coordinate workshop activities and prioritise workloads to meet customer deadlines.
  • Supervise and support machinists and workshop personnel.
  • Promote a safe working environment and maintain Health & Safety standards.
  • Identify and implement operational improvements.

Engineering & Manufacturing

  • Support CNC and manual machining operations.
  • Review engineering drawings, specifications and manufacturing methods.
  • Provide technical guidance and resolve production issues.
  • Assist with tooling, fixtures, workholding and process improvements.
  • Support quality assurance and continuous improvement activities.

Production Planning

  • Assist with production scheduling, capacity planning and resource allocation.
  • Monitor work in progress and delivery performance.
  • Coordinate subcontract operations where required.
  • Support purchasing, stock control and material availability.

Customer & Supplier Management

  • Act as a key contact for customers on technical and production matters.
  • Liaise with suppliers for quotations, purchasing and delivery management.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with customers and suppliers.

Commercial & Business Support

  • Assist with quotations, job costing and production reporting.
  • Maintain production and quality records.
  • Support strategic planning and business growth initiatives.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Time-served engineer, toolmaker or machinist.
  • Strong knowledge of machining and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience leading or supervising engineering teams.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication and organisational skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Outlook, Word and Teams.
  • Customer-focused with the ability to work independently and make decisions.

Desirable

  • CNC programming experience.
  • Experience within precision engineering or subcontract machining.
  • Knowledge of purchasing, estimating or production planning.
  • Understanding of ISO 9001 quality systems.
  • Forklift licence.
  • Experience managing supplier relationships.
