Manufacturing Operator
As a Manufacturing Operator, you’ll be hands-on in this physical role, forming part of the production team. Key responsibilities include contributing to a can-do attitude and a keen eye for quality. Your tasks will involve:
- Producing high tolerance components essential to the quality of the finished product
- Operating and maintaining a broad range of processes and machinery
- Identifying ways to improve productivity and overall product performance
Working Hours
Monday to Thursday: 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM Friday: 6:00 AM to 1:00 PM

This is a two-stage process following shortlisting:
- 30-minute interview via Microsoft Teams
- Onsite interview lasting 1 hour

Requirements
Essential
- Hands-on, practical approach, with experience in a manufacturing environment
- High attention to detail with the ability to maintain focus under challenging conditions
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Good mechanical aptitude and practical skills
- Alignment with Thorlabs’ core values and a positive, proactive attitude
- Problem-solving capability with a knack for quick resolutions
- Historical success in a team environment

- Proven ability to work within a team, aiming for scheduled manufacturing targets
- Exposure to and understanding of precision industrial machinery and processes

- Willingness to undertake cross-training to expand knowledge of the Tables Business Unit
What You’ll Do
- Work cohesively within a dedicated team to meet and exceed production schedules
- Receive on-the-job training to operate an array of precision machinery
- Maintain highly focused attention to detail throughout manufacturing processes
- Accurately record technical measurements, readings, and communication via the production control system
- Collaborate on cross-training to develop expertise in the Optical Tables business line
- Be proactive in quality improvements and resolving manufacturing challenges

Compensation & Benefits Package
- Hourly wage: £13.45 per hour
