Role Overview

Alloyed’s facility in Abingdon runs many project types, from early-stage R&D in which processes are developed from scratch, to production runs of 1,000s of parts manufactured to a high spec under rigorous quality control.

As a Manufacturing Operator, you will be involved in every project type, and you will be trained in many stages of the production process.

Responsibilities

Core Activities

  • Operation of the wire-EDM (electrical discharge machining) machines, bandsaw, and other cutting machines
  • Surface treatment processes, including tumbling, blasting, laser engraving, and hand-polishing
  • Manual finishing using hand tools
  • Maintenance and cleaning of equipment and work areas
  • Calibration and monitoring of sensitive machinery

Potential or Future Activities

  • Operation of metrology equipment including blue light scanning and surface roughness measurement
  • Machining and mechanical testing of test coupons
  • Running the additive manufacturing machines which produce metal parts and the associated machine set-up and de-build steps
  • Operating ovens to heat-treat parts
  • This role requires manual handling activities which include moving items weighing up to 20kg

Essential Skills

  • Excellent attention to detail, able to maintain focus for extended periods and with tight deadlines
  • Strong desire to learn new production techniques to a high standard
  • Proactive; able to identify and suggest improvements to processes
  • Strong interest in engineering R&D, process development, and continuous improvement
  • Confidence in interacting with many teams, including project engineers, process development engineers, Quality and H&S teams, and other operations teams
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Previous experience in additive manufacture or in metal parts production (desirable)
  • Proficiency in operating machinery (desirable)
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and best practices in a manufacturing setting (desirable)
  • Ability and willingness to move heavy items
