About The Role
This is not your average Shift Manager role. Based in Wombourne, the Shift Manager is at the heart of site performance—leading people, driving operational excellence, and owning outcomes across Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, Environment, and People (SQDC).
You’ll act as a bridge between a Traditional Shift Manager and a Production Manager, managing a team of up to 25 people (including 3 Team Leaders and a mix of permanent and agency operators). You’ll be the most senior leader on-site out of hours, accountable for decision-making, problem-solving, and driving performance.
Key priorities include:
- Developing your team—upskilling Team Leaders so they can step into leadership roles.
- Building a pipeline of capable operators.
- Leading a career path towards Senior Production Manager or Plant Manager.
This role is for ambitious, technically curious, and autonomous leaders who thrive with real responsibility.
What You'll Do
-
Lead Daily Operations:
- Chair the Daily Direction Setting (DDS) meeting, presenting the previous 24-hour shift and the operational plan for the next 24 hours.
- Flag material or operational considerations to the wider site team.
-
Own Team Performance:
- Ensure Team Leaders and operators work to standard work methods.
- Make decisions and solve problems—do not wait for guidance.
- Take full accountability for performance.
-
Develop Your People:
- Create genuine development opportunities for Team Leaders and operators.
- Ensure capable successors are ready for future leadership roles.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
