Manufacturing Team Leader

Team Leader – Automotive Manufacturing (Telford)

Permanent Position

  • Location: Telford
  • Hours: Double shifts, Monday to Friday – 1500 to 2300
  • Salary: Up to £35,000.00 (inclusive of shift allowance)

We are seeking an experienced Team Leader, preferably with automotive manufacturing background, to join our well-established and successful manufacturing business based in Telford.

About the Role

As Team Leader, you will oversee a team of associates, driving performance, fostering a constructive work environment, and ensuring operational efficiency in accordance with our "Quality First" philosophy.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Supervise, train, and support team members, adopting a "lead by example" approach
  • Ensure associates meet cycle time targets and production objectives
  • Support new hires with tailored on-the-job training
  • Facilitate communication of the "Quality First" philosophy to the team
  • Execute operational tasks aligned with business goals
  • Maintain and enforce operational standards to sustain smooth, efficient operations
  • Manage part ordering to align with the daily build plan, while maintaining optimal stock levels
  • Deploy team members effectively to meet production schedules and targets daily
  • Ensure production monitoring boards are accurately maintained
  • Conduct effective end-of-shift handover, covering any issues, actions, and compliance requirements, whilst ensuring the area is left production-ready for the next shift
  • Champion, maintain, and audit the 5S methodology within your section

Essential Requirements

To be considered for this position, candidates must have:

  • Relevant experience in manufacturing and customer-driven operations
  • Basic familiarity with the company’s policies, procedures and standards
  • An accredited Level 3 qualification in Leadership and Management
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Good numerical/analytical ability and problem-solving aptitude
  • Proficiency in computer applications
  • Experience with Lean Management Techniques (Kaizen)
  • Ability to motivate, engage and involve team members to achieve objectives
  • Champion teamwork and embrace a lead-by-example mindset
  • Understanding of business KPIs, financial budgets, and cost control

Desirable Skills & Experience

Candidates with the following strengths will be highly considered:

  • Completed IOSH Managing Safely qualification
  • Previous automotive industry experience
  • Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Knowledge of Japanese manufacturing principles (Toyota Production System, Lean Thinking)

Training & Settlement

  • On-the-job training provided for specific manufacturing processes
