We have an exciting opportunity for a Manufacturing Technology Manager in the Defence Future Programmes team supporting the Manufacturing, Assembly & Test (MA&T) organisation.

This role will lead the development and industrialisation of new manufacturing technologies through the full Technology Readiness Level (TRL) lifecycle, from concept validation to production implementation. The role is responsible for driving innovation, developing new and novel manufacturing methods, and ensuring successful transition of emerging technologies into an operational environment.

The role is also responsible for supporting MA&T in the acquisition of safety-critical and business continuity capabilities, ensuring ongoing operational continuity. This position will also lead and develop a team of Manufacturing Engineers, providing technical direction, project leadership, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver strategic technology critical to Defence.

What you will be doing:

  • Develop capability - Acquire, develop, sustain & implement capability, capital (equipment & tooling) and manufacturing technology to improve competitiveness for the business, in line with the Manufacturing Capability Acquisition (C2 Acquire Technology) process
  • Develop talent - Act as professional leader of the manufacturing engineering technology acquisition community within area of responsibility, ensuring required competences are in place and promoting the development and growth of the community. Manage directly reporting technical resource.
  • Create strategy - Contribute to the development of integrated manufacturing technology strategy for the business, connecting strategy, design, supply chain, operations and digital stakeholders along with manufacturing process owners, technology partnerships and suppliers to create manufacturing technology strategies and roadmaps which support agreed integrated product strategies
  • HSE - Responsible for ensuring that technologies developed and deployed are in full compliance to Health, Safety & Environmental Standards and meet the expectations of the Zero Harm programme.

Position qualifications:

  • Professionally qualified Engineer (UK minimum BEng degree or other national equivalent)
  • Strong understanding of the Manufacturing Capability Acquisition (C2 Acquire Technology) process
  • Has experience providing technical and professional leadership to a community of Engineers
  • Has led projects/activities across a range of Manufacturing Engineering Processes, including tasks which carry a significant element of technical risk
  • Has developed and deployed extensive personal and professional networks
  • Broad knowledge of manufacturing processes and technologies relevant to the business
