Venture Global LNG (“Venture Global”) is a long-term, low-cost provider of American-produced liquefied natural gas. The company’s Louisiana-based export projects service the global demand for North American natural gas and support the long-term development of clean and reliable North American energy supplies. Using reliable, proven technology in an innovative plant design configuration, Venture Global’s modular, mid-scale plant design will replace traditional designs as it allows for the same efficiency and operational reliability at significantly lower capital cost.

Position Summary

The Marine/HSEQ Superintendent is responsible for a strong focus on Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSEQ). The role involves close engagement with vessel teams, ensuring effective implementation of company procedures, regulatory compliance, incident prevention, and continuous improvement in safety performance. The Superintendent acts as a key link between ship and shore, providing operational guidance, leadership, and support.

Key Responsibilities

  • HSEQ Management:
    • Promote a strong safety culture across vessels with emphasis on “Zero Harm” and proactive risk management.
    • Ensure effective implementation of HSEQ policies, procedures, and initiatives.
    • Monitor safety performance, KPIs, and trends; initiate improvement actions where required.
    • Lead incident investigations, including root cause analysis and Corrective and Preventive actions.
    • Ensure timely reporting and proper classification of incidents.

  • Audits, Inspections & Compliance:

    • Prepare vessels for internal and external audits.
    • Participate in audits and inspections; ensure closure of findings within agreed timelines.
    • Maintain oversight of vessel certification and statutory compliance.
  • Marine Operations:

    • Monitor and support day-to-day marine operations of assigned LNG vessels.
    • Ensure compliance with company SMS, international regulations, and industry best practices.
    • Review passage plans, cargo operations, and critical operations as required.
    • Provide guidance on navigation, cargo handling, mooring, and emergency preparedness.
  • Training & Crew Support:

    • Provide guidance and mentoring to Masters and Senior officers.
    • Support crew competence development, including familiarization and drills.
    • Review crew matrix and support compliance with terminal and charterer requirements.
  • Documentation & Continuous Improvement:

    • Review and update company procedures based on operational feedback.
    • Ensure effective use of digital tools (e.g., Mariapps, ERBs).
    • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across fleet operations and HSEQ performance.
  • Emergency Response:

    • Act as part of the Emergency Response Team (ERT) as required.
    • Provide support during incidents and emergencies.

Qualifications

Education & Certifications:

  • Certificate of Competency (CoC) – Deck (STCW II/2 – Master Mariner )
  • Relevant training in LNG or Tanker operations
  • ISM/ISO Lead Auditor certification will be an advantage.

Experience:

  • Candidates must have demonstratble experience in a comparable HSEQ role, with responsibility for HSE management systems, regulatory compliance, risk management and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Sailing experience as Chief Officer on tanker vessels (Oil or Gas) is essential, candidates with Masters sailing experience will be preferred.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of Tanker (Gas, Oil or Chemical) operations, marine regulations, and industry standards.
  • Strong knowledge of HSEQ systems, incident investigation, and risk management.
  • Experience with audits and inspections (SIRE, PSC, Flag, TMSA).
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills with ability to collaborate with global teams and influence shipboard teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Effective communication skills (written and verbal).
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and commitment to safety.
  • Proficiency in digital systems and reporting tools.

Work Conditions:

  • Job is performed in an office and onboard Company vessels.
  • Up to 30% travel can be expected, visiting VG vessels/facilities
  • National and international travel can be expected.
  • Must be able to board an LNG tanker via gangway and/or Pilot ladder.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work indoors & outdoors, and be exposed to year-around weather conditions, ocean environment, and noise.
