Marine Consultant / Marine Assurance Lead - BRAND NEW

ROLE FOR OUR CLIENT

Location: Scotland, United Kingdom (Hybrid)

Overview

To lead and deliver a broad range of marine consultancy, assurance, and advisory services across the offshore energy sector. Responsible for managing consultancy projects, coordinating technical resources, maintaining strong client relationships, supporting business development, and preparing competitive tenders. The role includes representing the consultancy during client meetings, vessel attendances, and offshore assignments.

The position requires travel, sometimes at short notice, to undertake vessel inspections, surveys, assurance activities, and client engagements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver high-quality marine consultancy, assurance, and advisory projects.
  • Manage multiple consultancy assignments, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high technical standard.
  • Coordinate vessel attendances and marine assurance activities, allocating appropriate technical resources.
  • Monitor and manage the financial performance of marine consultancy projects.
  • Provide expert technical advice and guidance to clients and colleagues on marine operations and assurance matters.
  • Deliver vessel inspections, marine assurance reviews, operational assessments, and consultancy services.
  • Develop and maintain a network of competent independent marine consultants, ensuring capability, availability, and technical excellence.
  • Contribute to the development of new consultancy services, methodologies, and technical solutions that enhance capability and competitiveness.
  • Promote knowledge sharing, mentoring, and technical development within the consultancy team.
  • Support business development by identifying opportunities, building long-term client relationships, preparing proposals, and contributing to successful tenders.
  • Enhance the consultancy's market profile through technical articles, presentations, industry events, and professional networking.
  • Capture client feedback and identify opportunities to improve safety, operational performance, and service delivery.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

  • Certified Master Mariner (Unlimited STCW II/2 Certificate of Competency).
  • Extensive seagoing experience as Master or Chief Officer within the offshore oil & gas and/or renewable energy sectors.
  • Strong operational knowledge of one or more of the following:
    • Rigid pipelay
    • Flexible lay
    • Heavy lift operations
    • Dynamic Positioning (DP)
    • Anchor handling
    • Rig moves
    • Towage
    • Offshore supply operations
  • Current knowledge of international marine regulations, industry standards, best practice, and assurance methodologies.
  • Ability to produce clear, concise, and technically robust reports and presentations.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and client-facing skills, with the ability to explain complex technical issues effectively.
  • Able to work independently while contributing positively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Right to live and work in the United Kingdom.
  • Ability to attend offshore assignments.

It is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Master Mariner with consultancy experience to support clients throughout the lifecycle of offshore and marine construction projects, providing technical advice, assurance, and operational expertise.
