Marine Project Manager
Marine Project Manager Opportunity with the Civil Works Alliance (CWA), Supporting Sizewell C
About the Role
Help shape the UK’s energy future by being part of the historic development of Sizewell C, a 3.2-gigawatt power station generating low-carbon electricity for around 6 million homes. As a Marine Project Manager within the Civil Works Alliance (CWA), this role is pivotal in supporting the construction of Sizewell C, ensuring safe and efficient delivery of offshore works and contributing to at least 60 years of reliable clean electricity for the UK.
You will form part of the Marine and Tunnels Section and act as a key leader within the CWA, bridging the collaborative efforts of the client (Sizewell C) and parent companies (Balfour Beatty, Bouygues, and Laing O'Rourke).
Responsibilities
- Accountable for successful delivery and subcontractor management of offshore work packages;
- Define the appropriate strategies to meet customer/project requirements, objectives, and constraints, focusing on time, cost, quality, scope, risk, benefits and deliverables;
- Provide management, leadership and control of a multi-disciplinary team, including Section Engineers, Site Engineers, Agents, and Sub-Agents, ensuring effective stewarding;
- Collaborate closely with Preconstruction Leads / Offshore Construction Managers and Onshore Project Management team to plan, establish and oversee safe offshore works execution at Sizewell C.
Requirements
Essential
- Strong working knowledge of NEC (Next Generation Contracts), FIDIC and other standard forms of contract, particularly those applicable in the marine/offshore sector;
- Proven ability to manage and control offshore/marine construction activities, including technical requirements and application of industry-standard techniques;
- Capability to review, approve and implement high-quality construction programmes and resource-loaded schedules;
- Experience in Safe Systems of Work (SSoW), including developing, reviewing and approving for marine operations;
- Sound understanding of Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM 2015) and their application to offshore sites;
- Proficiency in the use and interpretation of Productivity tracking, forecast analysis and performance metrics tools;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively present technical and commercial information;
- Demonstrated leadership and team management, with experience leading multi-disciplinary teams/subcontractors in high-impact, high-risk offshore/marine environments;
- Ability to make competent independent judgments, and take accountable, fact-based decisions under pressure;
- Proven track record of successful project delivery, ideally in complex marine/offshore construction with responsibility for delivery, safety and quality control;
- Strong commercial awareness with experience in project financial control, *cost forecasting and subcontractor relations;
- Ability to solve technical, safety and commercial issues and stakeholder engagement, demonstrating a collaborative and solution-focused approach;
- Minimum 3 to 5 years' direct experience managing offshore or marine construction projects, with responsibility for safety, quality and delivery

Desirable
- Understanding/implementation of Development Consent Order (DCO) and Marine Management Organisation (MMO) licensing processes and associated post-consent compliance;
- A working knowledge of pre-construction work planning including site investigation, consenting and constructability reviews;
Additional Qualifications and Certifications
We expect the successful candidate to have credentials from the following categories:
- Degree-level qualification in a relevant field such as Construction, Civil Engineering, Project Management, (e.g. BSc, MSc, MET, MEng, BEng) or demonstrable equivalent professional experience*;
- A certification in project management (APM PFQ / PMQ / PPQ / PRINCE2 / equivalent);
- A CSCS card + SMSTS (or HSE-equivalent Site Management Training);
- Portable offshore survival certification (Sea Survival) and offshore medical clearance (under the STCW equivalent or comprised of BOSIET/GWO); OR a willingness to obtain these as part of on-boarding.
