About the Role
These are full-time, temporary roles within NatureScot’s Marine Energy Programme in the Sustainable Coasts & Seas Activity.
Key Purpose
The selected candidates will support the growing team responsible for coordinating and delivering casework advice on offshore wind developments linked to ScotWind and InTOG, along with broader marine energy casework. This directly contributes to Scotland’s 2045 net-zero targets.
Core involvement includes:

- Engaging with industry, Marine Directorate, Crown Estate Scotland, and Local Authorities to support NatureScot’s policies, particularly regarding the climate emergency and biodiversity crisis.
- Assisting in the formulation of guidance and research essential for supporting ScotWind, InTOG, and broader marine energy initiatives.
The post holder will collaborate closely with NatureScot colleagues to:
- Coordinate and develop written and verbal, formal/informal casework advice.
- Support preventative measures against biodiversity loss and restoration of nature.
Additional responsibility may include acting as a Duty Officer, assisting with marine pollution incidents (which may require occasional weekend/evening work).

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
