Location: England – Offshore Operations Salary: £25,729.45 plus excellent benefits Qualification: Maritime mechanical and electrical mechanic (Level 2) Training Provider: Fleetwood Nautical Campus (Blackpool & The Fylde College) Expected Duration: 24 Months (Full Time / 48 hours per week, including sea phases and college-based learning) Start Date: January 2027
About the Role

As a Maritime Mechanical and Electrical Mechanic Apprentice, you’ll work directly on board Serco-operated vessels, supporting essential military training activities both nationally and internationally. This role provides:

- The opportunity to achieve an MCA Engine Room Rating Certificate
What You’ll Do
You will undertake training and serve required sea time to qualify as an Engine Room Rating, supporting the safe and efficient operation of naval ships. Your duties include, but are not limited to:
Core Responsibilities
- Develop and demonstrate competency as a member of the engine room team under supervision
- Assist with engine room watchkeeping duties, monitoring machinery and systems
- Perform routine maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment
- Carry out basic fault identification and reporting (escalating issues as required)
- Support bunkering, lubrication, and fluid management following safety procedures
- Maintain high housekeeping standards in operational environments
- Contribute to inspections and vessel servicing
- Support fire-fighting and emergency response drills

Training Requirements
- Attend assessments and End Point Assessment (EPA) with IAMI upon completing the programme
- Complete Offshore Training Institute (OTI) mandatory training modules
- Comply with UK Merchant Navy Code of Conduct
- Achieve necessary sea service as directed by the Maritime Training Officer
Requirements
To apply, you must meet the following criteria:
- Minimum age: 18 years or older
- Flexibility: Able to adapt between college phases and extended sea phases (periods away from home)
- Citizenship & Security:
- Must hold the right to work in the UK
- Hold a valid UK Passport
- Be eligible for Security Clearance
- ** Somali/British National** (preferable)
- Education: 4 GCSEs (or equivalent) and minimum grades C/4 or above in:
- Maths
- English
- Medical: Capable of obtaining an ENG1 unrestricted medical certificate
- Attitude & Skills:
- Must be team-focused and disciplined
- Proactive with a willingness to learn, adapt, and uphold safety standards
- Ability to contribute effectively to a strong safety culture
