Market Analyst

Full-Time, Permanent London or Seething, Hybrid working


The Role

As part of James Fisher’s commitment to innovation, this Market Analyst role within our Maritime Transport division will drive advanced market intelligence, data-driven insights, and strategic decision-making.

You will:

  • Provide critical commercial insight, translating global market trends into actionable recommendations.
  • Act as a bridge between market intelligence and internal strategy, ensuring decisions are proactive, informed, and aligned with long-term growth.
  • Develop and refine market frameworks, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and scalability of market data.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Support market intelligence frameworks – Develop tools and systems to gather competitor data, industry trends, and market dynamics.
  • Maintain data integrity – Ensure market data is accurate, consistent, and reliable for strategic use.
  • Monitor shifts in the market – Identify risks, opportunities, and competitor positioning to inform decision-making.
  • Collaborate across teams – Work with stakeholders to deliver tailored market insights aligned with organisational strategy.
  • Market sizing & strategy support – Help define key market segments and refine product development strategies.
  • Data systems management – Organise and maintain market intelligence systems and research repositories.
  • Turn data into insights – Drive dashboards, KPIs, and monthly reporting, making data actionable for stakeholders.
  • Process automation – Identify opportunities to streamline research and automate data collection.
  • System integration – Assist during system upgrades or strategic changes, ensuring seamless data integration.
  • Track industry trends – Monitor economic, geopolitical, and industry developments that impact maritime transport.
  • Internal briefings & dissemination – Contribute to data-driven briefings and advocate for evidence-based decision-making.
  • Compliance adherence – Ensure all research activities comply with data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR).

What We’re Looking For

Essential Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Business, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Experience with reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
  • Proficiency in SQL and relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server).
  • Exposure to statistical tools (e.g., Python, R, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of data governance, privacy, and security (e.g., GDPR compliance).
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Clear, professional communication for diverse audiences (internal/external).
  • Ability to work independently in fast-paced environments, with team collaboration.
  • Proactive mindset with a drive to learn, improve, and innovate.
  • Passion for using data and technology to drive strategic decisions.
