Market Development Executive
Packaging Automation | FMCG | Food & Beverage | Pharmaceutical | Healthcare
Location: UK (Hybrid)
Are you someone who enjoys opening doors, building relationships and identifying commercial opportunities before your competitors even know they exist?
We’re partnering with a global leader in industrial automation and packaging technology to recruit a Market Development Executive. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with experience in business development, lead generation or inside sales who enjoys engaging with manufacturers and identifying future capital equipment projects.
This is not a cold-calling role focused on hitting activity targets. Instead, you’ll become a trusted commercial resource, uncovering future automation investments, building relationships with key decision-makers and generating qualified opportunities for an experienced external sales team.
The Opportunity
Working closely with Business Development Managers and Key Account Managers, you’ll research target markets, engage prospective customers and identify upcoming automation, packaging and manufacturing projects across a range of industries including:
- FMCG
- Food & Beverage
- Pharmaceutical
- Healthcare
- Personal Care
- Consumer Goods Manufacturing
You’ll play a key role in building a strong pipeline of qualified opportunities while developing long-term relationships with manufacturers investing in production, packaging and automation technology.

Key Responsibilities
- Research and identify prospective customers across manufacturing sectors.
- Generate new business opportunities through telephone outreach, email campaigns, LinkedIn and other digital channels.
- Identify Engineering Managers, Operations Directors, Project Managers, Maintenance Managers, Production Managers and other key decision-makers.
- Qualify opportunities and understand customer requirements, budgets and project timelines.
- Arrange meetings and technical discussions for the external sales team.
- Build relationships with prospective customers until projects become sales-ready.
- Monitor factory expansions, CAPEX investment, automation projects and new product launches.
- Identify greenfield opportunities and strategic target accounts.
- Develop relationships with engineering consultants, specification influencers and system integrators.
- Maintain accurate CRM records and pipeline reporting.
- Attend industry exhibitions, networking events and customer open days.
About You
We’re interested in speaking with individuals who have experience in one or more of the following:
- Business Development
- Inside Sales
- Market Development
- Lead Generation
- Sales Development Representative (SDR)
- Technical Sales Support
Experience within any of these industries would be highly advantageous:

You’ll also have:
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- A proactive, commercially driven mindset.
- Experience using CRM systems such as Salesforce, HubSpot or Microsoft Dynamics.
- Familiarity with LinkedIn Sales Navigator, Apollo or similar prospecting tools.
- The confidence to engage senior stakeholders and identify future business opportunities.
- Excellent organisation, follow-up and research skills.
