Contract Type: Casual

Working Hours: Variable hours, worked on an as-required basis to provide operational cover for leave, sickness, vacancies, and events. Flexibility is essential as hours and days of work will vary in line with service needs. Shift patterns are 05:00 to 13:00, 09:30 to 18:00, 07:30 to 15:30, 06:00 to 13:30, 11:30 to 19:00, 08:30 to 16:30.

Salary: £13.26 per hour (Pay award pending)

Location: Glasshouse Street Market Offices, Glasshouse Street, Nottingham, NG1 3LP with regular travel and working across Nottingham City Council's market and fair sites, including: Victoria Market, Bulwell Market, Hyson Green Market, Clifton Market

About the Role

We are looking to recruit a number of flexible Casual Market Operatives to support the Markets and Fairs service across Nottingham. These roles provide essential operational cover for annual leave, sickness absence, vacancies, events, and periods of increased demand.

Working across a range of market sites and street trading locations, you will assist with the set-up, operation, and breakdown of markets and events, ensuring sites are safe, clean, and welcoming for traders, visitors, and customers. Duties may include erecting and dismantling market stalls, moving equipment, assisting traders, carrying out site inspections, maintaining cleanliness standards, and undertaking general market operational duties.

This is a casual, as-required position with no guaranteed hours. Flexibility is essential, as shifts will vary and may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and bank holidays in line with service requirements.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to deal confidently and professionally with traders, customers, and colleagues.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • A practical approach to work, including the ability to undertake manual handling and outdoor duties in all weather conditions.
  • An understanding of the importance of health and safety and safe working practices.
  • Basic IT skills for completing records and communicating with colleagues.
  • The ability to travel to and work across multiple market and event sites throughout Nottingham as required.
