Market Risk Analyst

Market Risk Analyst – Physical Energy Trading

📍 London | Hybrid | Competitive Salary + Bonus + Benefits

Are you an experienced Market Risk Analyst looking to work at the heart of a fast-paced physical energy trading business?

We're partnering with a leading energy trading organisation seeking a Market Risk Analyst to support front-office trading activities across physical power, gas and environmental products. This is an exciting opportunity to join a high-performing risk team, providing critical insight and challenge to trading decisions while helping shape the firm's risk framework.


The Role

Reporting into the Market Risk Manager, you'll work closely with traders, quantitative analysts, and senior stakeholders to monitor, analyse, and report market risk exposures across a diverse physical energy portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and analyse daily market risk across physical energy trading portfolios
  • Produce and review risk metrics, including:
    • Value at Risk (VaR)
    • Stress testing
    • Sensitivities
    • Profit and Loss (P&L) attribution
  • Challenge trading positions and ensure compliance with approved risk limits
  • Partner with the Front Office to provide commercial risk insights and support strategic decision-making
  • Investigate risk limit breaches and recommend appropriate actions
  • Support the development and enhancement of market risk models, methodologies, and reporting
  • Contribute to new product approvals and improvements to the risk framework
  • Collaborate with Finance, Middle Office, Operations, and Technology on cross-functional initiatives

About You

We're looking for someone who combines strong analytical skills with a commercial mindset and a genuine understanding of physical energy markets.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in Market Risk within an energy trading environment
  • Strong knowledge of physical power, gas, LNG, oil, or wider commodity markets
  • Experience working with:
    • Market risk methodologies, including VaR, stress testing, and scenario analysis
    • Physical trading exposures and associated risk drivers
  • Strong Excel skills; experience with Python, SQL, or VBA would be advantageous
  • Excellent communication skills with the confidence to challenge and influence senior stakeholders
  • Degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline
