Marketing, Events and Engagement Manager

Head of Events and Engagement (Maternity Cover) – Fixed Term Contract

About the Role

13-month fixed-term contract (selector as maternity leave, covering start mid-September 2026–mid-October 2027).

Reporting directly to the Head of Events and Engagement, this dynamic leadership role requires a strategic-minded professional to:

  • Lead a team in delivering UK corporate events, healthcare stakeholder engagement, and integrated marketing/communications across Scotland.
  • Strengthen Motability Operations’ reputation by building brand awareness, engaging partners, and fostering meaningful relationships with customers and stakeholders.

As part of an Executive Committee-driven strategy, you’ll collaborate with Marketing, Communications, Customer Experience, and external partners (including Motability Foundation, agencies and suppliers) to align engagement activities with broader organisational objectives.

Primary Responsibilities

1. Scottish Sponsorships, Events & Marketing/Communications

  • Identify and capitalise on opportunities to heighten Motability Scheme awareness via:
    • Events, partnerships, and campaigns in Scotland.
    • Strategic partnerships and ambassador programmes, working cross-functionally to develop engaging campaigns and stakeholder engagement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with agencies and external stakeholders to deliver supportive campaigns that embody Motability’s purpose.

2. Corporate Events Leadership

  • Oversee and evaluate Motability’s UK corporate events strategy (conferences, exhibitions, sponsorships, sponsorships, employee engagement initiatives, and customer-focused events).
  • Lead the Senior Events Executive (Corporate/Internal Events) to ensure:
    • Events align with business objectives and enhance brand reputation.
    • Industry-leading conferences, exhibitions, sponsorships, internal/employee, and customer engagement events are delivered successfully.
  • Align crisis communication protocols with corporate affairs and communications teams to protect reputation and messaging alignment.

3. Healthcare Stakeholder Engagement

  • Provide strategic direction to the Scheme Stakeholder Engagement Executive to:
    • Elevate awareness and understanding of the Motability Scheme within healthcare sectors.
    • Strengthen long-term, trusted relationships with healthcare organisations and professional bodies.
    • Gather and action stakeholder insights to inform strategic decision-making.

4. Team Leadership

  • Directly manage the Senior Events Executive and Scheme Stakeholder Engagement Executive, ensuring:
    • Clear objectives are set, performance is monitored, and developmental growth is fostered.
    • A collaborative, inclusive, and results-driven culture is nurtured.
  • Partner with Executive Committee members, senior leaders, and cross-functional teams (Marketing, Communications, Customer Experience) to foster integrated engagement strategies.
  • Facilitate seamless collaboration with agencies, suppliers, and key partners to execute high-impact programmes.
  • Continuously improve engagement initiatives through evaluation, insights, and feedback.

About You

We’re looking for a seasoned marketing, communications, and engagement professional with:

  • A passion for dynamic, fast-paced work and a preference for variety.
  • Equally capable of leading teams and stakeholders while rolling up sleeves for hands-on delivery.
  • A proven track record in:
    • Event planning and sponsorship management.
    • Stakeholder engagement.
    • Integrated marketing and campaigns (preferably in nonprofit, disability, or community sectors).

You’ll be confident, organised, and adept at balancing priorities with high standards while delivering tangible results. Most importantly, you’ll bring collaborative creativity, sound judgement, and a commitment to diversity—firmly believing in inclusive experiences and community impact.


Essential Criteria

To excel in this role, you must demonstrate:

  • Line management experience, with an ability to coach, develop, and drive accountable teams.
  • 7+ years in marketing, communications, events or stakeholder engagement in a large organisation.
  • Successful execution of:
    • High-stakes events, campaigns, and sponsorships.
    • Strategic partnerships or ambassador programmes (ideal experience includes sport, disability or community-focused organisations).
  • Experience in relationship-building with:
    • Executives/senior stakeholders.
    • External agencies, suppliers, and partners.
  • Budget/project management skills, with the ability to prioritise and deliver under pressure.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) to influence diverse stakeholders.
  • UK (especially Scotland-specific) experience, including an understanding of political, media, and commercial landscapes.
  • Degree-level (or equivalent) qualification in Marketing/Communications/Events Management.
  • A dedication to inclusion, ethical partnerships that further disability advocacy/transport equity.
  • Availability for:
    • Regular travel across the UK (pages Edinburgh, Bristol, and London).
    • Occasional overnight stays.
    • Evening/weekend hours for events.
  • Full UK driving licence.
