I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

About the Role In this role, you will have a fantastic opportunity to build deep expertise in mask engineering while developing strong mask design capabilities. You will start by gaining hands-on experience with mask data workflows, tooling environments, and tape-out processes, learning how cutting-edge photonic and semiconductor designs are translated into precision manufacturable mask data. As you grow, you will take on increasing responsibility in mask design activities.

Key Responsibilities Own the end-to-end mask and reticle procurement process, including placing orders, managing workflows, and ensuring accurate and complete data submission to mask vendors. Drive fast, right-first-time ordering by translating design outputs into mask orders efficiently while maintaining a strong focus on accuracy and quality. Validate vendor outputs by reviewing digitised and fractured mask data to ensure design intent is fully preserved through the mask manufacturing process. Ensure fab readiness by confirming all delivered masks are compatible with production tools and meet required manufacturing specifications. Act as the technical interface between design teams, fabrication sites, and mask suppliers, proactively resolving issues and ensuring clear communication across all parties. Foster strong cross-functional collaboration across design, process, and manufacturing teams to ensure timely, aligned, and reliable mask delivery schedules. Once you have mastered the Mask engineering activities you will be given the opportunity to learn mask design and grow your confidence here. You will also support other development activities as required.
