Master

Location: Faslane, Helensburgh, G84 8HL

Salary: Competitive salary plus excellent benefits

Schedule: Full-time, permanent, 48 hours per week, 3 weeks on/3 weeks off rotation

As a Master in our Marine Scotland team, you’ll take overall responsibility for the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the vessel. You’ll lead the crew, oversee maritime operations, and ensure the highest standards of safety, environmental protection, and service delivery.

You’ll help deliver essential marine services that support operational requirements while making a positive impact on communities. By leading a skilled crew, maintaining regulatory compliance, and driving a culture of safety and professionalism, you’ll play a vital role in helping us impact a better future.

What you’ll do as a Master

  • Take responsibility for the safe navigation, manoeuvring, and mooring of the vessel.
  • Ensure towing services are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with operational requirements.
  • Lead, manage, and develop crew members, including training, performance development reviews, and people management responsibilities.
  • Maintain compliance with Flag State, Class, Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW95), International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL), and International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREGs) requirements.
  • Oversee vessel maintenance, administration, planned maintenance programmes, and defect reporting processes.
  • Build strong relationships with customers, management teams, and operational stakeholders while ensuring all company policies and procedures are effectively communicated and implemented.

Does this sound like you?

  • Qualifications held must be in line with relevant MHR 202.9 Port Certification Matrices.
  • Ability to obtain Security Check (SC) security clearance.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Experience managing vessel operations within a maritime environment.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.

Vetting and checks:

This role requires Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance, which involves verifying your identity, employment history, nationality, and criminal record to meet government security standards. In addition, you will need to obtain formal Security Clearance (such as CTC or SC), which includes more detailed background checks on employment, criminal record, and financial history to ensure suitability for working in secure environments. Please note that UK residency requirements may apply for certain levels of clearance. You will also complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire so we can identify and provide any support you may need to undertake the role effectively.
