The Role

Are you a data professional with experience in tools like FME, looking to build your skills and make a real impact?

As a Master Data Advisor, you will support the delivery and ongoing management of data integration, reporting, and data quality activities across Natural Resources Wales (NRW). You will help maintain data pipelines, dashboards, and data tools, ensuring data is accurate, accessible, and supports day-to-day operational and decision-making needs.

Working as part of the Master Data team, you will provide technical support to colleagues across the organisation, helping to resolve queries and improve how data is used in practice. You will also contribute to the development and enhancement of data solutions, gaining valuable experience in enterprise data tools, processes, and standards.

As an organisation, we support flexible working. You will be contracted to the nearest NRW office to your home, and a suitable hybrid working pattern will be agreed upon appointment. Any regular face-to-face meetings or training will be planned in advance.

This role will be offered as a fixed-term appointment until 31 March 2027 with the potential to become permanent, offering a great opportunity to develop in a supportive team.

To make an informal enquiry about this role, please contact Georgia Power at georgia.g.power@cyfoethnaturiolcymru.gov.uk.

Interviews will take place through Microsoft Teams.

  • Maintain tools and applications that manage the flow, integrity, and integration of NRW data assets as data moves between applications and new applications are developed.
  • Maintain operational reporting tools and support staff across NRW to build dashboards, reports, and operational views of our data so that it supports SMNR and informs operational decisions and policy development.
  • Work with NRW data custodians and Master Data colleagues to help define, manage, monitor, and audit NRW's corporate data standards, including validation and quality checking activities.
  • Import, export, transform, validate, and quality assure NRW data in line with NRW and industry standards, across a range of data themes, formats, and from a range of IT applications.
  • Provide ITIL resolver support, training, and guidance to staff across NRW, dealing with complex technical support queries from staff in the use of NRW's suite of data integration tools with specific responsibility for supporting FME-based processes and users.
  • Analyse and model data in accordance with the MDM 10 step methodology, applying established structures and standards.
  • Maintain corporate reference dictionaries and term lists that are used to standardise (master) data capture and retrieval in NRW.
  • Create operational reports, dashboards, and business views of our data to meet operational needs.
  • Support the team leader and master data specialists to deliver improvement projects and solutions by contributing to the specification, configuration testing, and service introduction of new FME-based data solutions, including enhancements to existing data pipelines and workflows.
  • Represent master data in relevant task and finish groups, networks, and governance groups, providing input on FME-enabled data standards, controls, and integration approaches.
  • Support and train new Master Data Team members.
  • Undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post.
  • Be committed to Natural Resources Wales Equal Opportunities and Diversity Policy, together with an understanding of how it operates within the responsibilities of the post.
  • Be committed to your own development through the effective use of your personal development plan (known as Sgwrs).
  • Any other reasonable duties requested commensurate with the grade of this role.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
