Your role:
The Master Technician with Workshop Control is a senior technical and operational role responsible for maximising workshop performance, technical excellence and vehicle throughput. Acting as the highest level of technical authority within the workshop, the postholder leads the diagnosis and resolution of the most complex vehicle concerns, including high-voltage systems, software integration, engineering investigations and emerging technologies.

In parallel, the role assumes responsibility for workshop control activities, optimising labour utilisation, workload planning, vehicle flow and resource allocation to achieve operational, quality and customer service objectives. The role provides technical leadership, coaches developing technicians and acts as a key escalation point for engineering, quality, warranty and operational stakeholders.
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Act as the highest bench level technical authority, resolving the most complex faults across the vehicle range
- Control daily workshop loading, job allocation and progress when acting as Workshop Controller
- Flex between hands on master technician work and workshop control according to demand
- Work across customer, engineering, press, buyback, prototype and warranty-return vehicles
- Use OEM diagnostic equipment, special tools and workshop systems to the highest level
- Coordinate parts, WIP and VOR visibility to protect throughput and on-time delivery
- Provide technical guidance, coaching and mentoring to technicians and apprentices
- Work to OEM repair, Health & Safety and high voltage standards, and escalate to the Workshop Manager
- Controls and coordinates daily workshop capacity across multiple technicians and vehicle programmes.
- Influences workshop utilisation, efficiency, productivity and on-time delivery performance.
- Responsible for prioritisation and workflow decisions affecting customer vehicles, engineering vehicles, prototype programmes and warranty investigations.
- Operates autonomously in resolving the most technically complex issues with significant impact on vehicle quality, customer satisfaction and operational performance.
- Provides technical guidance and mentoring across the technician population and supports capability development planning.
- Supports business-critical investigations involving vehicle quality, engineering concerns, warranty risk and safety-related faults

What we are looking for:
Essential:
- Master Technician accreditation or equivalent OEM master-level qualification
- 8+ years' automotive workshop experience
- Proven advanced diagnostic capability across mechanical, electrical and electronic systems
- Strong competence in CAN systems, software flashing, ECU programming and HV systems
- Previous workshop control, service control or loading experience
- Strong planning, prioritisation and organisation skills
- Confident communicator across technical and non-technical teams
- Sound knowledge of warranty and job-card standards
- Full driving licence
Desirable:
- BMW experience preferred but not essential
- OEM technical centre or main-dealer experience
- EV / Hybrid Level 3 or 4
- Experience with prototype, engineering or SVO vehicles
- DMS / workshop-loading and analytics experience
- Coaching / mentoring capability or IMI accreditation
