Material Controller
Location: Woodford Halse
Job Type: 18 Month – Fixed Term Contract
Department: Material Operations
Reports To: Material Planning Manager
Hours of Work
Your normal working hours are:
- Monday to Thursday: 07:30 – 16:15
- Friday: 07:00 – 15:30
- Lunch Break: 30-minute unpaid break daily
You may occasionally be required to work additional hours as business demands dictate. You will also receive one working from home day per week.

We foster a collaborative, supportive environment where team members thrive. As we grow, we’re seeking an experienced Material Controller to join our team for an 18-month fixed-term contract and uphold our “Everything Is Important” philosophy.
Job Summary
As the Material Planner, you’ll ensure timely availability of materials and components to support production and vehicle build schedules, embodying our core belief that “Everything Is Important.”
You’ll:
- Plan and coordinate material requirements
- Manage inventory levels
- Maintain supply continuity to meet operational demand
- Translate production schedules into material demand plans
- Monitor stock levels against targets
- Mitigate supply risks to minimise production disruptions
Collaborating closely with suppliers and cross-functional teams, you’ll:
- Develop accurate material forecasts
- Coordinate deliveries to align with production needs
- Build strong supplier relationships
- Resolve material shortages and expedite supply chain efficiencies

Additionally, you’ll drive continuous improvement in material planning, supply, and overall operational performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Schedule and control the supply of materials and components to meet:
- Build plan requirements
- Vehicle build schedules
- Monitor and report material shortages, escalating risks to production promptly
- Liaise daily with the Build team to review and resolve vehicle-specific shortages
- Collaborate with Material Controllers to manage part availability and prevent delays
- Attend build and production meetings, updating stakeholders on material status, shortages, and recovery plans
- Work with the MRP Data Analyst to resolve planning issues and improve accuracy
- Track and communicate car-by-car material status updates during SOS meetings
- Manage supplier communications to:
- Expedite deliveries
- Resolve supply issues
- Ensure materials are delivered on time
- Analyse stock levels against production demand and planning assumptions
- Interpret build schedules and MRP requirements to generate demand plans
- Identify and mitigate supply chain risks impacting schedules
- Identify opportunities for process improvement in planning and supply
- Build strong relationships with internal teams and suppliers to ensure timely material arrival
- Support supplier meetings, negotiate demands, and ensure alignment with production needs
- Implement/evaluate processes for optimising material delivery from suppliers to workshops
- Translate master schedules into material demands and create supply plans
- Produce and distribute forecasts to suppliers while fostering proactive supplier relationships
Skills, Abilities & Attributes
- Essential:
- Strong understanding of supply chain management or deep expertise in a specialism
- Knowledge/skills in bank reconciliation (as noted from a possible oversight in original text – covered under “excellent attention to detail”)
- Expertise in manufacturing/automotive supply chains
- Proven experience with MRP (Material Requirements Planning) systems
- Hands-on experience in materials planning and smooth stock management for production
- Core Competencies:
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Reliability & punctuality (critical for scheduling)
- Strong analytical, planning, and problem-solving skills
