About the Role Deep Sea Electronics is a global leader in the design and manufacture of:
- Generator controllers
- Automatic transfer switch controllers
- Battery chargers
- Vehicle and off-highway control systems
With over 200 employees across four continents and a presence in more than 150 countries, Deep Sea Electronics supplies products through direct distribution from their UK head office and an established international distributor network.
The Materials Controller will join the purchasing team, overseeing materials control activities to ensure:
- Efficient and timely supply of components
- Cost-effective production support
- Collaboration with purchasing, planning, engineering, and suppliers
- Proactive issue resolution and accurate data and reporting
The role will drive continuous improvement in:
- Processes
- Supplier performance
- Inventory management to enhance efficiency and minimise disruptions.
Key Responsibilities
Materials Oversight & Operational Efficiency
- Maintain oversight of all materials functions across buying areas
- Ensure professional, efficient, and effective delivery of materials activities
- Liaise with production and planning to:
- Improve efficiency
- Manage shortages
- Communicate demand changes

Supply Chain & Stock Management
- Develop and optimise consignment stock processes and coverage
- Improve Far East supply chain performance, including logistics and delivery efficiency
- Expedite materials to meet production and personnel requirements on time
- Proactively resolve issues and update stakeholders on component status
Supplier & Order Management
- Collaborate with buyers on purchase orders and component availability
- Manage supplier performance, delivery dates, and corrective actions to prevent line stops
- Maintain accurate supplier order books and system data (Epicor/ Sourceday)
- Escalate supplier and order issues to the purchasing manager and wider team
Reporting & KPIs
- Produce and communicate daily and weekly materials reports
- Control stock levels to:
- Minimise excess inventory
- Eliminate obsolete stock
- Ensure material availability to meet production demands without disruption
- Maintain high standards of reporting across the team
- Drive continuous improvement in materials control for increased efficiency
- Develop and implement a vendor rating system
Team & Process Leadership
- Build strong cross-functional relationships with:
- Engineering
- Production
- Planning
- Support planning with component availability and amendments
- Ensure:
- All order and change documentation is accurate and up to date
- Timely on-site receipt of materials within budget and schedule
- Deliver against purchasing KPIs and manage team workload effectively

Requirements
Essential Skills & Experience
- Knowledge and understanding of modern purchasing systems
- Previous experience in a purchasing environment/office
- Excellent communication skills (all levels)
- Understanding of expediting and systems to control it
- Organised, with the ability to prioritise and manage workload
- Strong IT/Excel skills
- Expediting experience
- Preferable: Materials controller experience in a similar role
