Materials Controller / Quality Inspector Location: Haydock, St Helens Job type: Permanent / Temporary Contracted hours: Full time – 36hrs per week (we offer an option to condense full time hours into 4 days Monday – Thursday) / Part time About the role Overview of the role We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Materials Controller / Quality Inspector to support the effective management, inspection, and control of materials across our operations. This role plays a key part in ensuring materials and components are received, stored, inspected, and issued accurately while maintaining the quality standards required to support operational and customer requirements. Working closely with operational, engineering, quality, and supply chain teams, the successful candidate will help ensure products and materials meet specification, processes run efficiently, and any quality concerns are identified and addressed promptly. This is an integral role within the business, helping maintain compliance, minimise risk, and support the smooth delivery of projects and day-to-day operations. What you’ll be responsible for Your main responsibilities will include: · Manage the receipt, storage, control, and issuing of materials and components to support operational requirements · Carry out inspections of incoming goods and materials to ensure compliance with quality standards and specifications · Maintain accurate stock, inspection, and traceability records across systems and documentation · Identify, report, and help resolve any material discrepancies, defects, or quality concerns · Work closely with operational, quality, engineering, and supply chain teams to support efficient workflow and compliance · Contribute to continuous improvement activities to enhance material control, quality processes, and operational efficiency About you What you’ll bring We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate: · Previous experience within a Materials Controller, Stores, Quality Inspection, or similar operational role · Good understanding of material handling, stock control, and quality inspection processes · Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify discrepancies or quality issues accurately · Experience maintaining accurate records and using stock control or ERP systems · Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and communicate effectively across teams · A proactive and organised approach with a strong focus on quality, compliance, and continuous improvement Nice to have Although not essential, if you’re also able to demonstrate the following, we’ll take that into account when assessing your application: · Experience working within manufacturing, engineering, defence, or regulated environments · Familiarity with ERP, stock management, or quality management systems · An understanding of quality standards, inspection documentation, or traceability requirements · Forklift truck licence or other relevant operational certifications The Person We believe that recruiting is not just about finding people who can demonstrate the right skills – if you can demonstrate those we would also like to see: · a can-do attitude with a positive approach to problem solving · excellent attention to detail and accuracy in all areas of their work · application of our core values in your everyday working life: o collaboration and teamwork o integrity, trust and accountability o safety and security o client focused o positive social value and impact o continuous improvement What we offer In return, you’ll enjoy the following benefits: Ways of Working · 36 hours full time working · Optional 4 day working week (Monday to Thursday) · Hybrid working for many roles (minimum of 2 days per week on site) Time Off · 23 days holiday, plus 3 discretionary days to cover the Christmas closedown period (plus bank holidays) · Option to purchase up to 36 hours additional holiday · Birthday day off (in addition to your holiday entitlement) · 1 STEM Day per year Other benefits · Healthcare cash plan – allowing you to reclaim the cost of everyday healthcare · Employers pension contributions of 5% · Cycle to work scheme · Professional membership fees (if required for your role) · Free onsite parking · Free refreshments and fruit in the workplace Next Steps If this is the right role for you and you’re ready to join our team, please apply in writing with your CV and a covering letter giving us a little more information about yourself, your situation and why you consider yourself to be the right person for this role.
