Job Description: Your New Role

We’re seeking an experienced Materials Manager to lead our materials, stores, and logistics operations within a Train Maintenance Centre (TMC). This hands-on, onsite leadership role involves ownership of stock integrity, materials availability, and supply chain performance—ensuring our fleets receive safe, efficient, and high-quality maintenance.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and managing all materials, stores, and inventory operations to support maintenance delivery and fleet availability.
  • Ensuring robust stock control, governance, and inventory accuracy across all materials and tooling.
  • Promoting a strong health & safety culture and ensuring compliance with company and regulatory standards.
  • Providing leadership and direction to the materials team, fostering performance, engagement, and development.
  • Managing supplier and third-party logistics (3PL) relationships to meet service levels, drive cost efficiency, and deliver value.
  • Overseeing tooling, calibration (IMTE), and critical asset readiness to maintain operational integrity.
  • Leading audits, managing risk, and ensuring compliance across all materials and inventory processes.
  • Collaborating with supply chain, procurement, and systems teams to improve processes and performance.

About You: What We’re Looking For

We’re searching for a results-driven leader passionate about operational excellence and continuous improvement. Ideal candidates will bring:

Essential Criteria

  • Proven experience managing materials, stores, or warehouse operations in a high-complexity environment.
  • Strong leadership experience, including the ability to inspire and develop high-performing teams.
  • Solid understanding of inventory control, stock governance, and operational processes.
  • Experience with budgets and cost-efficiency initiatives.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • A UK driving licence with no more than 6 points.

Highly Desirable (but not essential)

  • Experience in the rail industry or within a safety-critical environment.
  • Familiarity with SAP or similar stock/asset management systems.
  • Qualifications in supply chain, logistics, or stores management.
