Location: Clitheroe Asphalt Plant, Lancashire
Regional role covering various quarries and asphalt plants in the North West

We're looking for a Materials Testing Technician to join our team based out of Tarmac Clitheroe Asphalt Plant carrying out testing at our various Plants and Quarries in the North West, Lancashire, Blackpool and Cumbria. You'll be at the heart of quality assurance, carrying out testing and analysis of aggregates and asphalt materials that help shape the roads, infrastructure and communities we all rely on.
What You'll Be Doing
As a Materials Testing Technician, you'll be responsible for ensuring our products consistently meet the highest quality standards. This is a practical, site-based role combining laboratory testing, on-site sampling and close collaboration with operational teams. You will be responsible for:
- Sampling and testing aggregates and asphalt materials on a daily basis
- Accurately recording, analysing and reporting test results
- Monitoring product quality for both internal and external customers
- Carrying out testing using specialist laboratory equipment, including ovens, furnaces, sieves, weighing apparatus and other scientific testing tools
- Travelling to other local Tarmac sites when required to undertake sampling and testing activities
- Identifying and escalating any quality concerns or potential issues
- Working safely at all times and adhering to Health and Safety procedures and standards

What We're Looking For
We're keen to hear from individuals who are practical, detail-oriented and enjoy working in a technical environment. The ideal candidate will have laboratory experience gained within quality control, construction materials, aggregates or asphalt sector however full training can be provided if candidates demonstrate the positive behaviours required to succeed in the role
Suitable candidates will also have:
- A proactive, hardworking and self-motivated approach
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy
- Good communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with colleagues and stakeholders
- Numerical confidence and the ability to interpret data and results
- Good IT skills
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- A flexible and adaptable approach to work
- A genuine commitment to Health and Safety
This isn't a traditional white-coat laboratory role. You'll spend time both in the laboratory and out on site, wearing PPE, working alongside operational teams and playing a key role in maintaining product quality across our operations.
A company van is provided with this role which is covering several quarries and asphalt plants in the region so is easily accessible from Accrington, Blackburn, Preston, Blackpool, Lancaster, Morecambe, Burnley and the surrounding areas.
