Site Technician – Full-Time (Permanent)


Department & Location

  • Department: Field Team
  • Location: Spondon, Derby
  • Employment Type: Permanent – Full-Time (40 hours per week)

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: £29,000 – £32,000 per year (depending on experience)
  • Signing-on bonus paid upon successful completion of probation
  • Referral rewards: Up to £500 if you refer a successful candidate
  • Overtime rates for evenings and weekends
  • Company benefits:
    • Company van, phone, and tablet (provided post-training)
    • All required training and Safety Critical Medical paid for by MSS

About the Role

Mattest Site Services (MSS), a UKAS-accredited laboratory under the Celnor Group, specialises in construction materials testing for major UK projects in transport, highways, and structural development.

As a Site Technician, you’ll work across live construction and road surfacing sites, conducting on-site testing and materials analysis while delivering technical accuracy, fast turnarounds, and expert field support.

This role is ideal for candidates with:

  • Experience in site testing, construction, or materials environments
  • A willingness to progress in a fast-growing industry

Key Responsibilities

  • Attend construction and surfacing sites to perform on-site sampling and testing of materials (soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt)
  • Conduct laboratory testing (on-site or in-house) with precision
  • Record and upload test results accurately using company systems (tablet provided)
  • Liaise with site teams and colleagues to ensure quality, compliance, and efficiency
  • Operate within shift patterns (day/night, occasional weekends) with paid overtime
  • Travel across the Midlands using a company van (post-onboarding)
  • Adhere to all safety standards, including passing a paid Safety Critical Medical

Requirements & Qualifications

Essential Criteria:

  • Experience in construction site work, materials testing, or a technical environment
  • Clear communication skills and ability to work independently
  • Familiarity with digital tools and Microsoft Office
  • Valid full UK driving licence
  • Willingness to obtain (or already hold) a CSCS card
  • Flexibility with working hours and the capacity to travel

  • UKAS/MCIT/Soils & Aggregates experience (full technical support provided)
  • Existing knowledge of site testing methodologies
