The Role
As a Maths and English Tutor at Explore Learning, you’ll act as both a coach and mentor, shaping children’s learning journeys with engaging, personalised sessions. Your work will directly fuel progress and boost self-assurance in each of your young learners.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver tailored, effective lessons using Compass, our interactive learning platform.
- Adapt sessions for each learner—scaffolding foundational skills or stretching advanced concepts.
- Use questioning, discussion, and interactive activities to deepen understanding.
- Build nurturing, long-lasting relationships with children.
- Work with small groups on a 1:6 ratio, fostering trust and confidence.
- Create a safe, stimulating environment where kids feel comfortable taking risks and exploring new ideas.
- Support progress across the board
- Guide children from early development to grades 8+ (including 11+, KS1, KS2, and GCSE prep).
- Celebrate milestones and celebrate incremental wins, motivating learners to keep going.

What You’ll Need
To succeed in this role, you should:
- Enjoy leading interactive sessions with young learners (aged 4–16), guiding them with a mix of support and challenge.
- Possess strong 1:1 and small-group teaching skills, with firm but kind behaviour management techniques.
- Be fully invested in consistent, long-term support—this isn’t just about short-term progress, but building confidence and resilience over time.
- Have (or be about to receive) GCSE-level grades 6/5 or higher in Maths & English Language, or an equivalent qualification.

Logistics
- Location: Fixed On-site Role in our Cheltenham centre.
- Contract Type: Permanent (Part-Time)
- Commitment: A minimum of 6 hours per week, split across at least two different weekdays. Available start times:
- 3:30–4:00pm (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday)
- Morning/afternoon shifts on Saturdays (roster details provided later).
- This is not a seasonal role. We’re seeking tutors for the full academic year and beyond.

Pay & Progression
We understand the worth of passionate tutors! Your pay scales with experience, and you’ll have clear opportunities to advancement. Hourly rates (with annual pay increment based on hours logged) are:
- Under 18: £8.40/hour
- 18–20: £10.90/hour
- 21+: £12.75/hour
Further bonuses apply:
- +£0.50/hour if based inside the M25.
- You’re paid for all training and inductions.
Requirements & Hiring Process
You must:
- Be at least 16 years old and have the right to work in the UK.
- Have GCSE Maths and English Language 6/5 or above (or equivalent, as predicted/qualified).
** Commitment to safeguarding & honesty is mandatory.**
- DBS disclosure required (we follow Enhanced DBS checks).
- All applications need full employment history documented, with gaps explained if present.
