Maths and English Tutor – Abbey Wood
Why Explore Learning?
Inspire learning. Build confidence. Change children’s lives.
For 25 years, Explore Learning has supported children across the UK to thrive through expert tuition, innovative learning tools, and a team dedicated to creating meaningful learning experiences. A tailored approach centres around Compass, our adaptive learning platform, which allows tutors to adjust lessons in real time—scaffolding or stretching learning to ensure each child progresses in meaningful ways.
At the heart of our success? Our tutors. Their ability to inspire confidence, curiosity, and lasting growth makes learning come alive. If you thrive in hands-on learning, with a team that prioritises your development, this role is perfect for you.
The Role
As a tutor at Explore Learning, you’ll support and enrich children’s learning as both coach and mentor—prioritising impact over instruction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver structured, impactful lessons: Use Compass—our smart learning tool—to provide tailored sessions through questioning, support (scaffolding), and challenge (stretching). Shape small-group dynamics (1:6 ratio) to maximise engagement and progress.
- Build meaningful relationships: With consistent, caring interactions, develop trust and confidence with each child. Provide a safe, inspiring space where they feel empowered to take risks and explore learning.
- Drive academic achievement: Align lessons with the national curriculum while supporting children in high-stakes areas like 11+ entrance exams and GCSE prep. Celebrate growth and milestones at every step.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
