Maths and English Tutor (Hounslow)
Inspire learning. Build confidence. Change children’s lives.
For 25 years, Explore Learning has helped children across the UK thrive through expert tuition, innovative learning tools, and the dedication of our incredible people.
We offer a truly individualised approach to learning—our platform [Compass] follows each child’s pace and adapts in real time, meaning our tutors can stretch or scaffold to enable meaningful progress.
While our award-winning platform drives us forward, it is our tutors who truly bring learning to life, building confidence, inspiring curiosity, and delivering transformative learning experiences that make a lasting impact.
If you’re looking for the chance to learn quickly through hands-on experience, supported by a team invested in your growth, this is the role for you.
About the Role
Our tutors act as coaches and mentors, not just instructors, supporting every learner’s progress with care and purpose.
As a Maths and English Tutor, you will have a vital role to play in every child’s learning journey:
- Deliver personalised lessons using our smart learning tool, Compass, where you facilitate progression through tailored questioning, scaffolding, and enrichment.
- Build meaningful relationships with children in 1-to-1 sessions (though teaching in small groups of up to 1:16), creating a safe space where they can grow in confidence and take risks.
- Support academic excellence, assisting learners with their national curriculum, 11+ entrance exam prep, and GCSE revision.
Key Responsibilities
The role requires:
✅ The ability to lead engaging 1-to-1 sessions (or small group sessions) using structured questioning, encouragement, and positive reinforcement techniques while prioritising behaviour management and safeguarding.
✅ Familiarity with the national curriculum (ages 4–16) and comfort delivering tailored support in maths (11+ prep and GCSE maths) and English.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
