About the Role
Are you an inspiring senior nurse leader ready to make a real difference across a diverse and evolving portfolio of services?
We are looking for a visible, compassionate, and dynamic Matron to join our leadership team within the Community Cancer, Diagnostics, and End of Life Care Division. This is a unique opportunity to lead high-impact services that play a vital role in patient pathways across the Morecambe Bay system.

Your Portfolio
You will lead and support a varied and rewarding directory, including:
- Outpatients services
- Bladder and Bowel service
- Diabetes team
These services span the Morecambe Bay footprint across:
- Furness General Hospital (FGH)
- Located in Barrow
- Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI)
- Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal

About You
We’re looking for an experienced individual who:
- Is a senior nurse leader (Matron or equivalent)
- Has a strong track record of service improvement and team leadership
- Is passionate about delivering high-quality, compassionate care
- Thrives in a complex, fast-paced environment
- Is a credible, approachable, and influential leader
Key Responsibilities

Provide clinical and operational leadership for multi-trust services, ensuring:
- Safe and effective care delivery
- Safeguarding, infection prevention, patient flow, patient safety, and governance are prioritised

Support own teams to deliver high standards of care, offering highly specialist advice and support to wider multidisciplinary teams (MDT) both internally and externally.

Act as an advocate for patients and service users, ensuring services align with patient needs, expectations, and help reduce health inequalities.

Initiate service reviews including:
- Policy development and review (evidence-informed)
- Workforce planning to ensure current staffing meets service needs.

Lead clinical care delivery improvements within the division, working closely with senior leadership.

- Critical/Coronary Care units

- Full Emergency Department
- Emergency critical care
- Specialist acute and diagnostic services
Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) – Kendal
- General outpatient services
- Urgent Treatment Centre
- Treats non-life-threatening conditions (e.g., broken bones, minor illnesses)
Key additional services across the region:
- Planned care, including:
- Outpatients
- Diagnostics
- Therapies
- Day case and inpatient surgery.
- Community services delivered in:
- Patients’ homes
- Community centres
- Clinics
- GP practices
- Small community hospitals
