Matron – Emergency Department (Royal Derby Hospital)
About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Matron of the Emergency Department at Royal Derby Hospital. The successful applicant will be an experienced registered nurse with a positive leadership style, tasked with supporting the front-door pathway across the Emergency Department and Urgent Treatment Centre at RDH.
Working within a dedicated and friendly team in the acute medicine business unit, this role demands excellent clinical leadership under the guidance of the Divisional Nurse Director.
Key Responsibilities

Leadership and oversight: As the professional/clinical leader for nurses and healthcare support staff, you will oversee:
- Assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care
- Upholding nursing and corporate standards, monitoring compliance, and driving continual improvement

Team development: Lead, manage, and develop staff to ensure high-quality patient care and service delivery

Visible advocacy and support: Provide a highly visible, accessible, and authoritative presence by:
- Offering assistance, advice, and problem-solving to patients, families, and staff
- Ensuring concerns and issues are addressed promptly

Professional representation: Serve as a role model for all nurses by:
- Ensuring adherence to Trust standards, taking corrective action when necessary
- Managing on-call duties, including evenings, weekends, bank holidays, and night shifts in extreme circumstances
- Acting up professionally or managerially as required

- Cross-site coordination: Travel between sites to ensure effective leadership across both the Emergency Department and Urgent Treatment Centre
Required Skills & Experience
