Orbia Fluor and Energy Materials, an Orbia business, is looking for an MDI Analytical Chemist to be based at Thornton Science Park, Cheshire, UK.
Main Purpose
Support the MDI Services business analytical testing requirements in compliance with applicable cGMP guidelines and internal procedures.
Main Responsibilities
- Source, install and qualification of Analytical Equipment.
- Development, Validation, verification and transfer of Analytical Test Procedures (including pharmacopeial verification) to and from the Orbia F&EM MDI services facility.
- Sampling and incoming inspection of raw materials and components in line with approved procedures or monographs.
- Testing to support development studies and clinical batch release of Metered Dose Inhalers (MDI’s) including in-process, finished product and stability MDI samples, Cleaning Verification and environmental monitoring sampling.
- Lead and participate in Analytical Investigations, manufacturing deviations and remediation as required.
- Drive ownership and completion of Deviation, CAPA, Change Controls, Analytical Investigations and other PQS records to agreed timings.
- Management & co-ordination of planned preventative maintenance for Laboratory Equipment
- Support MDI continual Improvement activities as required.
- Creation and updates of SOP's, Analytical Test Methods, and specifications to support QC testing activities as required.
- Conduct EHS COSHH/risk assessment and recommend improvements to laboratory procedures, techniques and technologies.
- Maintain inventory control of materials, equipment and consumables, and re-order stocks as required.
- Develop training material and provide training to other members of Orbia F&EM MDI Services team.
- Supervise temporary staff and students working in the laboratory.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s Scientific Degree (Chemistry, Physics, Biology or equivalent)
Knowledge/ Experience Required
- 5 years+ experience in an accredited (ideally GMP) analytical laboratory working with HPLC/GC.
- Ability to work independently and proactively within a regulated pharmaceutical environment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with internal/external customers, stakeholders and regulators/auditors.
- Critical thinking and excellent problem solving & root cause analysis skills.
- A strong background in HPLC and or GC analysis and troubleshooting is essential.
- Experience and knowledge of key analytical techniques such Moisture analysis, FT-IR spectroscopy.
- Equipment qualification and calibration.
- Method development and validation including cleaning verification.
- Ideally, experience in handling and testing pressurized gases or Metered Dose Inhalers (including NGI/ACI, Delivered Dose Uniformity techniques but this is not essential).
- Ideally, experience of testing in line with recognized Pharmacopeia but not essential.
- Ability to work to approved quality and safety procedures and recognize and propose opportunities for improvement.
- Good documentation skills including ability to record activities in line with ALCOA principles.
- Excellent computer, literacy and numeracy proficiency.
