About the Role

As a Measurement Engineer specialising in Optical and 3D Structured Light, you’ll be part of the Defence UK and International business. Your work will be critical in advancing our next-generation products through cutting-edge measurement processes.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and programming 3D scanning and structured-light measurement systems using cutting-edge software (e.g., Zeiss Inspect, PolyWorks).
  • Optimising measurement programs for accuracy, efficiency, and high-volume production environments.
  • Validating processes to ensure adherence to quality, technical, health, and safety standards across the entire product lifecycle (new product introduction, production, assembly, repair, and overhaul).
  • Creating clear operational work instructions for optical and 3D measurement inspection processes.
  • Providing technical support and troubleshooting for production measurement challenges, collaborating with operations to resolve issues efficiently.
  • Designing and implementing setup, fixturing, and verification procedures ensuring reproducible, safe, and reliable inspection methods.
  • Supporting continuous improvement in manufacturing excellence, product quality, and process efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimise programming for 3D scanning equipment.
  • Validate measurement processes to ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.
  • Create detailed work instructions for optical measurement operations.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex measurement issues in production.
  • Establish robust fixturing and setup procedures for high-precision inspection.
  • Provide expertise to enhance measurement system accuracy and repeatability.
  • Work across the product lifecycle, ensuring consistent quality control from design to servicing.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Qualification: Professionally qualified engineer (e.g., UK HND or foundation degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent national qualification).
  • Software Proficiency: Proficient in 3D scanning or optical metrology software, including Zeiss Inspect, PolyWorks.
  • Inspection and Metrology: Strong understanding of optical and 3D structured light metrology, with hands-on experience.
  • Systems Knowledge: Good understanding of manufacturing processes and general awareness of digital manufacturing systems (e.g., Teamcenter, NX).

Security

This role requires applicants to hold at minimum a valid Security Check (SC) clearance. If you currently do not, Rolls-Royce can support your application process—though priority will be given to candidates already holding security clearance.

Leadership & Growth Potential

  • The grade (SNBG 7-10) and compensation of this position will be tailored to your skills and experience level.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to inform their current manager of their application.
