About the Role

As a Measurement Engineer specialising in Optical and 3D Structured Light technologies within Rolls-Royce’s Defence UK and International business, you will develop, programme, and industrialise advanced measurement processes using 3D scanning equipment. This role focuses on ensuring accurate and efficient verification of current and next-generation products through cutting-edge optical techniques.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop & Optimise 3D scanning and structured light measurement programs (e.g., using Zeiss Inspect, PolyWorks).
  • Validate measurement routines to meet quality, accuracy, efficiency, and safety standards for the entire product lifecycle (NPI, production, assembly, repair, and overhaul).
  • Create clear operational work instructions for optical/3D scanning inspection processes.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshoot measurement issues, collaborating with operations to resolve challenges.
  • Define setup, fixturing, and verification procedures to ensure robust, repeatable, and safe processes.

Position Qualifications

Education & Experience Required:

  • Professionally qualified engineer, with minimum a UK HND/Foundation Degree or equivalent (e.g., Mechanical, Manufacturing, or related discipline).
  • Proficiency in 3D scanning/optical metrology software (e.g., Zeiss Inspect, PolyWorks).
  • Strong theoretical and hands-on understanding of inspection and metrology principles, with experience in optical and 3D structured light technologies.

Technical Knowledge:

  • Solid knowledge of manufacturing processes and familiarity with digital manufacturing systems (e.g., Teamcenter, NX).
  • Preferred: Metrology qualifications (e.g., NPL Level 1/2 or NMSA Level 2/3, or equivalent).

Security Requirements:

  • Must hold Developed Vetting (DV). A Minimum Security Check (SC) without caveats is required upfront. Rolls-Royce will support clearance applications.
