About the Role

We are seeking a suitably qualified and experienced LCV/LGV Mechanic, MOT Tester to join our team at the Central Vehicle Maintenance Unit.

  • Inspect, service, and repair a variety of:
    • LCVs (Light Commercial Vehicles)
    • LGVs (Large Goods Vehicles)
    • Associated equipment
  • Prepare vehicles for annual testing to DVSA standards
  • Perform vehicle testing (Private, Council, and Taxi) in our Class 4/7 test station (Note: An MOT tester’s certificate is required.)

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough vehicle inspections and repairs
  • Prepare vehicles for compliance testing and ensure DVSA standards are met
  • Test and certify vehicles (private, council, and taxi) through the MOT process

Requirements

Essential Criteria

  • Must hold a minimum qualifications relating to mechanical work, such as:
    • City & Guilds
    • BTec NVQ Level 3 in Vehicle Maintenance (Equivalent qualifications are acceptable)
  • A strong understanding of:
    • DVSA regulations for light and large vehicles
    • Health & Safety procedures
  • Proven track record as a time-served Mechanic

Desirable Experience

  • Welding and fabrication skills
  • Experience working with light commercial and large vehicles
  • Knowledge of automotive mechanics on diverse equipment

Important Notes

  • This is a Safety Critical Role subject to random drug & alcohol testing.
  • Alternative candidates from a Light Commercial Vehicle background may be considered if willing to gain the necessary qualifications within an agreed period.
