Who We Are

At Pullman Rail, we specialise in rail engineering, delivering high-quality rolling stock maintenance, overhauls, and refurbishment solutions. Based at our purpose-built Cardiff facility, we provide engineering services including:

  • Vehicle overhauls
  • Heavy maintenance
  • Component repairs
  • System upgrades

Our site supports specialist equipment and infrastructure to meet the needs of UK rail customers.

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical & Electrical Technician to join our Facilities team. This critical role ensures our site’s equipment, plant, and infrastructure remain safe, reliable, and fully operational to support our operations.

Requirements for Applicants

Candidates must have a background in facility maintenance or mechanical and electrical engineering, preferably within the following sectors:

  • Rail
  • Manufacturing
  • Heavy engineering
  • Industrial environments

Ideal candidates should have experience in:

  • Planned and reactive maintenance
  • Fault-finding and repairs across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems

About the Role

As a Mechanical and Electrical Technician, you will support the safe and efficient operation of our depot facilities by:

  • Conducting preventative maintenance, reactive repairs, and compliance checks for all site plant, machinery, and building services.
  • Ensuring facility reliability to sustain production and overhaul operations while maintaining high safety standards.
  • Collaborating with engineering teams, contractors, and the wider business to uphold quality and operational performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance on depot facilities, plant, and equipment.
  • Complete reactive maintenance and respond promptly to equipment breakdowns.
  • Diagnose faults and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Maintain workshop plant, including:
    • Lifting equipment
    • Compressors
    • Extraction systems
    • Depot-specific machinery.
  • Conduct routine inspections, testing, and checks to meet statutory compliance requirements.
  • Support fire safety, water hygiene, and facilities compliance across the site.
  • Manage contractor visits, including reviewing Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS), monitoring works, and performing post-work inspections.
  • Ensure equipment, machinery, and facilities remain safe, reliable, and fit for purpose.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, including inspection reports and asset histories.
  • Adhere to electrical isolation procedures, permit-to-work systems, and depot safety protocols.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, enhancing equipment reliability and site efficiency.
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams, external contractors, and service providers.

What You’ll Bring

Essential Requirements

  • Experience as a Mechanical & Electrical Technician, Facilities Technician, or Maintenance Engineer.
  • Background in rail, manufacturing, heavy engineering, or industrial environments.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Fault-finding, maintenance, and repair experience for industrial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and maintenance documentation.
  • Familiarity with:
    • Maintenance tools and equipment
    • Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
  • Understanding of facilities compliance requirements, including:
    • Fire systems
    • Water hygiene
    • HVAC systems
    • Statutory inspections.
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and quality management systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, proactive approach, and adaptability.
  • Commitment to delivering high standards of workmanship and safety.

Desirable Experience

  • Completion of an apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 in a relevant discipline:
    • Mechanical
    • Electrical
    • Maintenance Engineering.
  • Experience with SFG20 maintenance standards.
  • Knowledge of:
    • LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations)
    • PUWER (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations)
    • Legionella
    • Asbestos awareness.
  • Hands-on experience in rail depot environments.
