Mechanical Build Engineer

Marine Sub-Systems Assembly & Testing Specialist

Salary: Up to £50,000 DOE Type: Full Time, Permanent

  • Assemble marine sub-systems and support functional testing to validate system performance and sea-readiness
  • Build and test marine propulsion components (engines, gearboxes, waterjets) to installational standards
  • Identify, report, and address defects or issues during vessel construction and installation
  • Install sub-system components following marine engineering specifications and design requirements
  • Promptly escalate defects, material issues, or unclear documentation via correct reporting channels
  • Interpret and follow detailed work instructions, including 3D models and digital platforms, in a marine engineering environment
  • Assist with full vessel fit-out, ensuring all systems meet accuracy, security, and specification standards
  • Adhere to safety procedures, work instructions, and project schedules for compliant delivery
  • Maintain high-quality standards across build, safety, reliability, and marine compliance
  • Attend relevant meetings to provide experience-based feedback for process improvement
  • Travel for off-site marine craft testing, trials, or commissioning to ensure handover readiness
  • Support the operations team with routine and reactive maintenance tasks and technical assistance

Qualifications & Experience

  • Desirable: City & Guilds or HND qualification in Boat Building or Marine Engineering
  • Experience with diesel and petrol engines
  • Proficiency with hand tools and light machines
  • Hands-on with waterjet installation and gearbox maintenance
  • Computer literate with basic Microsoft Office skills
  • Right to live and work in the UK with no barriers to obtaining required security clearance
  • Note: Some roles require Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) and UK national security clearance (conditions apply)
