Mechanical Building Services Engineer – Construction Segment (Bristol-based, UK & Ireland)
About the Role
BAM UK & Ireland is recruiting a Mechanical Building Services Engineer to join our Construction segment, based in Bristol. The role requires travel to support projects across the region and reports directly to the Building Services Construction Manager.

Key Responsibilities

Tender & Cost Planning
- Evaluate M&E Consultants’ specifications, reviews tender drawings, and assess buildability
- Input on alternative design philosophies, logistics, and planning

Design Management
- Oversee design teams, organising and chairing workshops to meet obligations
- Monitor production of M&E design documentation, ensuring interfaces align with architects and structural engineers
- Meet Employer’s Requirements (ER) for design compliance

Technical & Coordination Tasks
- Manage and monitor ‘Technical Queries’ and Requests for Information (RFIs)
- Evaluate sub-contractor and supplier tenders for specification compliance and best value
- Liaise with sub-contractors and suppliers to ensure order accuracy, spec alignment, and cross-discipline engineering (electrical, construction)

Contractor Engineering
- Engineer contractor deliverables, including fan/pump sizing, bracketry, and expansion systems
- Raise and agree Technical Submissions for mechanical plant and equipment

Procurement & Delivery
- Manage delivery schedules of plant and equipment, including factory witness testing
- Oversee M&E co-ordinated installation drawings for schedule, budget, and design compliance

CDM, Quality & Compliance
- Review and sign off coordinated drawings for design compliance, safety (H&S), operational efficiency, and commissionability
- Manage CDP Specialists (e.g. sprinklers, BMS)

Client & Change Management
- Prepare and monitor client and design changes
- Collaborate with the construction team, including site inspections

What Do You Bring to the Role?
- An Engineering Degree (or equivalent)
- Construction industry experience in building services engineering
- Strong communication skills and collaborative attitude
- Proven time-management and workload-prioritisation capabilities
- Experience leading/supporting design teams
- Technical knowledge of mechanical systems, sizing, and coordination methods
- Indeed IT skills (Excel, Word) + adaptability to new software
- Previous management experience is advantageous
