Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Bristol
Type: Full-Time
Salary: £40,000 to £45,000 per annum + Benefits

The Role
We’re seeking a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join my client’s Design team, to develop equipment concepts and schemes that create competitive advantage and can be constructed and commissioned safely and effectively. Produce general arrangements, detail drawings, and material schedules which are clear, accurate, cost-effective, and meet the requirements of the specification.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure alignment with group technical standards
- Report problems and deficiencies in the design brief, and develop pragmatic cost-effective solutions
- Suggest solutions to problems based on an understanding of the relevant technologies
- Produce technical information, drawings, and associated schedules and documents, taking due account of health & safety requirements, designs, specifications, and standards relating to the contract
- Maintain drawing files and records throughout the duration of the contract
- Ensure that such design solutions compliment and support the manufacture and assembly processes and assist in driving best practice throughout the business
- Provide technical leadership to production personnel and other staff
- Ensure that as built specifications are recorded, and system function is tested and proven prior to commissioning
- Ensure that products are designed to meet customer expectations, but with modularization and standardization as key focuses
- Identify opportunities to continuously improve the performance & reliability of existing equipment through innovative design improvements, and where appropriate the use of new emerging technologies
- Support visits to customers as required, to help achieve sales, commission & test machines, and resolve problems
- Ensure that assigned project tasks are completed on time and to budget
- Deal with specifiers and/or suppliers & distributors
- Ensure that all statutory and company procedures & practices are maintained
- Work with and support other departments to ensure business objectives are achieved
- Visit Group companies on a world-wide basis, as required to support aftermarket, resolve problems, and test machines

What We’re Looking For
- Educated to BSc level or equivalent, or proven capability in a relevant discipline
- 5+ years in an engineering-related position
- 5+ years in mechanical design, preferably in bespoke engineering
- Proven experience of using CAD/PDM packages at minimum intermediate level, specific experience of SolidWorks/PDM desirable
- Knowledge of CE and Health & Safety legislation
- Understanding of continuous improvement techniques
- Current driving license and passport
