Job Description
Chronos Energy are looking to recruit a Mechanical Design Engineer to design innovative energy and decarbonisation solutions and deliver projects that make a real impact.
We're looking for a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to join our client's growing engineering team, supporting the design and delivery of complex energy and carbon reduction projects across a range of live operational environments.
Role Overview
This is an exciting opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of projects involving energy centres, heat pumps, CHP, steam and hot water systems, chilled water systems, BMS, standby generation, and other critical infrastructure. You'll be involved throughout the project lifecycle, from concept development and detailed design through to construction support and commissioning.

Key Responsibilities
- Developing mechanical designs from concept through to detailed design
- Producing and reviewing specifications, schematics, and technical documentation
- Coordinating designs with internal engineering teams and external consultants
- Supporting the delivery of low-carbon and energy efficiency projects
- Ensuring designs are practical, buildable, and compliant with relevant standards
- Participating in site surveys, inspections, and client meetings
- Supporting construction, commissioning, and handover activities
- Identifying and helping to mitigate technical and operational risks
- Working collaboratively with project, electrical, and controls engineers to deliver integrated solutions

Required Qualifications
- Degree qualified in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
- 3–5+ years' experience within building services, energy, infrastructure, or M&E environments
- Experience with HVAC, steam, heating, chilled water, and domestic water systems
- Knowledge of major plant including heat pumps, boilers, CHP, and chillers
- Ability to produce engineering schematics and concept layouts using AutoCAD
- Understanding of commissioning, testing, and engineering documentation
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Experience working within live operational environments would be advantageous
