Mechanical Design Engineer

Mechanical Design Engineer (UAV/Drone Launch Systems) — Hereford

About the Role

A Mechanical Design Engineer is required to join an innovative engineering team specialising in the design and development of UAV/drone launch systems. This opportunity is open to Graduate Design Engineers as well as experienced professionals.

Based in Hereford, the company designs and manufactures products in the UK for global markets. With a growing order book, they are expanding their team and seeking Mechanical Design Engineers to contribute to highly innovative projects.

The role demands a hands-on approach and a can-do attitude, along with the ability to work independently within a small but dynamic engineering team.

Key Responsibilities

The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Developing mechanical design schemes and detailed designs for UAV/drone launch systems, including their assembly and launch mechanisms.
  • Using hand calculations, simulation methods, and modelling tools (e.g., SolidWorks, ANSYS, or similar) to size, analyse, and optimise system components.
  • Conducting concept design of mechanical systems using CAD software.
  • Supporting in-house prototype builds.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
