Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: Newcastle upon Tyne Salary: £43,000 + Benefits

The Opportunity

KO2 is working with a forward-thinking engineering business based in Newcastle that specialises in industrial automation solutions for the Manufacturing, Process, and Robotics sectors. Due to continued growth, they are looking to recruit a Mechanical Design Engineer to strengthen their engineering team.

The Role

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the design and development of mechanical components and assemblies used within automated machinery and production systems. You will work closely with controls, manufacturing, and project teams to deliver robust, high-quality engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Mechanical design and development of machine structures, enclosures, assemblies, and components.
  • Producing detailed 3D models and engineering drawings.
  • Supporting designs through prototype, test, and manufacture.
  • Working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary engineering teams including controls and systems engineers.
  • Ensuring designs comply with technical, quality, and relevant industry standards, including Machinery Directive requirements.

Skills & Experience

  • Experience of mechanical design of complete machinery, fabrications, and assemblies within an industrial automation or production engineering environment.
  • Proficiency with Creo (preferred), or experience with SolidWorks, Inventor, or CATIA (all acceptable).
  • Understanding of mechanical design for automated systems, robotics, or machine building is highly desirable.
  • Ability to produce detailed drawings and documentation to manufacturing standard.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
