Analytical Mechanical Engineer – Capital Project Delivery

This role lies within our water and wastewater capital project delivery team. Our teams drive large-scale capital programs focused on sustaining water infrastructure for future generations while protecting the environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical optioneering:
    • Prepare, analyse, and review key mechanical options with the client and project stakeholders.
    • Mitigate risks, ensure gaps are addressed, and uphold the Project Basis of Design.
  • Conduct design calculations:
    • Size mechanical, hydraulic, power, and building services equipment.
  • Liaise with the supply chain:
    • Evaluate and integrate the latest technologies into the optioneering process.
  • Collaborate on 3D modelling & system solutions:
    • Work with the design team to develop innovative designs.
  • Oversee technical documentation:
    • Review and finalise P&IDs (process & instrumentation diagrams), data sheets, HAZID (Hazard Identification) and HAZOP (Hazard and Operability) studies, and mechanical inputs for commissioning plans, including proposed performance tests.
  • Drive safety and standards compliance:
    • Promote excellence in Health & Safety (H&S), ensuring designs meet CDM (Construction Design and Management) Regulations and industry best practices.
  • Align with project objectives:
    • Identify and champion opportunities to meet digital, sustainability, innovation, and people goals.

Requirements

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Extensive practical experience in mechanical design (especially in water/wastewater or related sectors).
  • Proven expertise in designing hydraulic and mechanical systems.
  • Strong understanding of modular construction methods and accreditation processes.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and innovate while maintaining a problem-solving mindset.
