Mechanical Design Engineer – Capital Equipment
📍 East Midlands | 💼 Permanent | 💰 c.£45-55K (DOE)

We are partnering with a specialist engineering manufacturer of controlled environment systems, used across the life sciences, plant growth, and regulated industries.
They are looking to appoint a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their small, highly experienced team—someone who can become a catalyst for change, bringing fresh ideas and enhancing design capability.

The Opportunity
This is a varied role combining project delivery and product innovation. You’ll design components and systems, work on bespoke projects, and help shape the next generation of products.
Responsibilities
- Design sheet metal and electro-mechanical assemblies using 3D CAD
- Develop systems involving airflow, heating, cooling, and ventilation
- Support projects from concept to installation and commissioning
- Drive value engineering and design for manufacture (DFM)
- Collaborate closely with suppliers, manufacturing, and project teams
- Challenge existing designs to improve performance and cost efficiency
Requirements
- Experience in mechanical design within HVAC, building services, process equipment, or similar fields
- Strong proficiency in 3D CAD (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor)
- Background in sheet metal or fabricated assemblies
- A proactive, innovative mindset with a willingness to challenge and improve workflows
